Although graphics greatly improved on PlayStation 3 compared to the previous generation, the PS3 quickly showcased its limitations with its level design and gameplay. Most PS3 games feel flat and far smaller now than when I first played them. What remains impressive are the choices by the developers at the time to do something different. Be it implementing a morality system, realistic gunfights and scenery, or focus on delivering a great story with good pacing and replayability. I played a good mix of games on PS3 willing to try anything in my teenage years to fill in the time before school came back around.

There are many PS3 games that are still impressive to play years after their release. From BioShock to Uncharted, Red Dead Redemption and Far Cry, to Borderlands and Assassin’s Creed, Wolfenstein to Dark Souls—and we all know The Last of Us certainly doesn’t need yet another remake. Many were ahead of their time, but there are a handful of games I grew up playing and adored that now sadly miss the mark because of their outdated graphics, level design, and gameplay. These are the PS3 games I’d love to see remade.

1) Call of Duty: Black Ops II

Now, I’m only mentioning CoD: BO2 for one reason only: League Play. This remains the most fun I’ve ever had in Call of Duty history because of its multiplayer. While I spent months perfecting no-scopes and quickscopes on MW2 and practicing trickshots on MW3, it was League Play that provided the most entertainment when playing with friends.

This is perhaps a wasted entry as I don’t need the entire game remade, but would love to see the return of League Play for its challenging and fun setting that used simple yet beloved CoD modes and ranked you based on whether you won or lost. As someone who still plays a ton of Apex Legends, League Play remains the most fun I’ve ever had ranking up in a video game.

2) Dark Souls

I know Dark Souls already has a remaster, but if it were to be remade, it needs to keep its immersive atmosphere from the original. FromSoftware sure knows how to wow with its worldbuilding and environments, creating a believable land that you want to run around and fully explore. We’ve seen it time and time again with Armored Core and Elden Ring, both having the best level design video games can offer. While fans may say Dark Souls‘ jankiness is part of what makes this game memorable, we’ve seen with the third game and Elden Ring that smoother gameplay works.

Dark Souls bosses still look incredible, and the level design is top-notch, but I’d love to see more depth added to the environment and upgraded combat systems. The first game in the franchise is rather outdated, not for its appearance, but for the enemy AI and boss movesets. Things feel much slower upon revisiting it, yet most arenas are quite big. Bosses execute sluggish attacks, then stop, rotate, and do the same again. There doesn’t seem to be the same strategy in place to learn their moves and combos to counter effectively. To be honest, Dark Souls doesn’t need to be remade, but it’s one I’m very curious about for its untapped potential on how it could look and play.

3) Infamous 2

Infamous 2 was my favorite game for many years. I had so many good memories playing this, being one of the main action-adventure games I’d sink hours into for its story, combat, open-world, and freedom. I used to revisit the sequel yearly until the PS5’s release, because by that point, Infamous had inevitably grown outdated. But my favorite thing about this game was two-fold: satisfying gameplay with choices that actually determined what you’d end up doing. You could be good or evil, altering your mission based on what the two side characters wanted to do.

I feel Infamous 2 needs a remake because it’s aged quite badly when it comes to its combat and level design. Enemy variety is decent, but it quickly gets repetitive. Cole glued onto enemies when you hit them, removing all challenge until you can deal damage from afar. But the climbing and traversal gameplay was flawless and remains so fun. From parkouring around the map, climbing onto whatever you want, to gliding across the environment on the power lines, everything in this vein was thrilling. Infamous 2 deserves a remake mostly for its level design, which was an incredibly restrictive open-world, trapping you on an island. It’s easy to get tied up in performing good or evil choices, but when you truly analyze the world, it’s a tad underwhelming.

4) Killzone 2

Killzone 2 looked absolutely incredible when it first came out, with gorgeous visuals, great sound design, and realistic environments. Similar to Gears of War and Crysis, Killzone demonstrated the power of graphics, being miles ahead of its competition at the time of its release. But this is where Killzone 2‘s praise ends, as this shooter is very outdated now, mostly because of its gameplay. This entry could use a massive overhaul, specifically in its gunfight and movement departments. Playing through it now is somewhat painful, and it doesn’t help that there has been a massive shift in recent years with fast, fluid movement for shooters (e.g., CoD’s omni movement and Apex Legends‘ tap strafe).

Playing through Killzone 2 nowadays is painfully slow, but it’s still an impressive-looking sequel. The environments were huge and immersive, with the destruction of war being prevalent throughout. For something that looks so incredible, Killzone 2 sure had limited gameplay as it stuck to perfecting the basics. The weapon variety was awesome, but the campaign quickly became repetitive. Similar to Resistance, these series deserve to make a comeback with improved gameplay, as either could easily compete against CoD and take top spot in today’s climate.

5) Prototype

Prototype is such an effortlessly cool game. Like living on GTA’s 5-star wanted list, Prototype saw rocket launchers and helicopters continuously come your way, where you could control and destroy whatever you pleased. I remember just going into this game to let off some steam after a long school day, but quickly noted the base level design and massively limited open-world of Prototype, which is the main reason for it being on this list.

The combat is still decent and I love how you can quickly and easily climb whatever you want to evade incoming fire, but Prototype‘s design felt as limited as a PlayStation 2 game. The destruction of the environment was amazing at the time, but an update on its gameplay and graphics could go a long way in creating the ultimate anti-hero game where you’re classified as the main villain by wreaking havoc across the city. But the setting was lifeless, and it’s only upon bringing chaos that the landscape lit up.

A PS1 game, an exclusive of the Sony console, is getting a remake next month, but the remake is not releasing on PS5 and PS5 Pro, or even PS4. Rather, it is releasing via the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch only. Odder than this, it is releasing on June 26, a few weeks after the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, yet there is no Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, however, it will be playable on the console via backward compatability, which is better than PS4 and PS5, where it won’t be available in any capacity.

The PS1 game in question is Front Mission 3, a 2000 release from Square, before Square merged with Enix in 2003 and became Square Enix. Technically, the game debuted in 1999, but this was only in Japan. It didn’t come to North America and Europe until 2000. As the name suggests, it is the third main installment in Front Mission series — which began in 1995 — but the fifth overall. Unlike its predecessors though, it was the first Front Mission game to be released in the aforementioned North America and Europe. Upon release, meanwhile, it garnered an 84 on GameRankings.

If a Front Mission 3 remake sounds familiar with it is because remakes have already released for the first two games. Front Mission 2 Remake and Front Mission Remake previously released in 2023 and 2022, respectively. And the good news for non-Nintendo Switch owners is both started as Nintendo Switch exclusives, but then came to PC and both generations of PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Surely the third remake will as well.

“The tactical RPG classic returns! Front Mission 3: Remake is the third chapter in the iconic series beloved by fans worldwide,” reads an official elevator pitch of the game from publisher Forever Entertainment and developer MegaPixel Studio. “Step into the role of Kazuki and Ryogo as tensions rise across volatile military zones. With the fate of the region hanging in the balance, command towering Wanzers and lead your squad through intense, turn-based battles.”

One of the most ill-fated PlayStation 4 games, The Order 1886, was intended to kick off a trilogy. When the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were first announced, just about every developer was out there trying to show off cutting edge graphics, which is fair given they were trying to demonstrate the power of the hardware. Of course, in the case of games like Watch Dogs this backfired. Other games like The Order 1886, however, managed to stick the landing in terms of astonishing visuals, but critics felt like it lacked all of the other important pieces of a good video game.

Just a little less than two years after its initial reveal, the highly anticipated The Order 1886 made its debut on the PS4 in February 2015. It was meant to be a big moment for the console and for developer Ready at Dawn, which was mostly known for making PSP spin-offs of God of War. This was a big moment for the company, but unfortunately, it was revealed just prior to its launch that the game was about five hours long. This put a lot of people off from buying it, as they felt $60 for 5 hours wasn’t a good value and then reviews weren’t exactly kind toward the rest of the game. As you might imagine, this resulted in any plans for future Order sequels being canned.

The Order 1886 followed the Knights of the Roundtable in an alternate history version of London as they battled supernatural creatures like werewolves. It was a really interesting game and gorgeous to look at. It probably had a lot of good potential for sequels too. As reported by VGC, Ready at Dawn founder Ru Weerasuriya and creative director on The Order 1886 told Julien Chieze that he had planned a trilogy for the PlayStation IP. Of course, the sequel was cancelled and a third game never actually entered development, but he had a story mapped out. The two games would’ve been The Order 1891 and The Order 1899, respectively.

The sequel would’ve included multiplayer and much bigger fights, though he didn’t go into much more detail. Multiplayer was planned for 1886, but it was ultimately shelved with plans to include it in the second game. It’s unclear if this would’ve been a traditional 6v6 PVP type of multiplayer or something more cooperative. Either way, it’s interesting to imagine what could’ve been. I was personally a fan of The Order 1886, as someone who picked it up years later for $5. I thought it was good fun and would’ve liked to see where Ready at Dawn could’ve taken it.

Ready at Dawn ended up being acquired by Meta years later and was unfortunately shut down in 2024. As a result, it’s highly unlikely The Order franchise will ever make any kind of return, but at least the first game still exists. If you’ve never played it and own a PS5, I highly recommend trying to snag it on sale and giving it a go. It’s a fun game to play over a weekend.

Would you have wanted to see sequels to The Order 1886? Let me know in the comments.

Today, PlayStation laid out its plans for the month of June, including the new free PS Plus games and Days of Play celebration for 2025. Along with the new additions for PS Plus subscribers, PlayStation is offering up a few good deals for all gamers this month. This includes a few pretty impressive bundles for the PS5 console and accessories that make up some of the best deals we’ve seen yet. For gamers looking to add a PS5 to their console collection, this latest PS5 bundle is not to be missed.

As part of Days of Play 2025, gamers can snag discount bundles. This includes a brand-new Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 console bundle for the PS5, along with deals on several PS5 accessories. But the bundle is definitely the big highlight here, giving gamers a great discount on a PS5 console along with the latest Call of Duty. The bundle deal, along with other discounts for the Days of Play celebration, begins on May 28th and runs through June 11th. Given the fact that many consoles are increasing in price lately due to tariffs and other market factors, seeing a discount is a rare opportunity indeed.

The PS5 console in all its glory

PS5 Console and Accessory Deals for PlayStation Days of Play

The shiny new PlayStation 5 Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Bundle will be available in the U.S. and Canada. Gamers can snag a digital edition PS5 along with the standard edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 starting at $399.99 USD / $509.99 CAD. Normally, a digital edition PS5 starts at $449.99, with the disc version running $499.99. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 typically costs around $69.99 for the Standard Edition. That makes this bundle quite a solid deal, bringing the combo for the console and game well below the price of a console alone!

Meanwhile, for those who prefer upgrading to the PS5 Pro, that will be discounted $50 USD off in the U.S. For those outside of the U.S. and Canada, select regions such as Europe and Asia can get a discount on the Digital Edition PlayStation 5 console, with prices starting at €399.99 / £339.99 / ¥65,980. The PS5 Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 bundle is definitely the standout deal here, but these other discounts are great for those outside the U.S. or who don’t need a copy of the latest CoD.

Call of duty: black ops 6 gameplay screenshot

For those who already have a PS5 console but might still want to upgrade their accessory game, there’s also a few solid accessory deals. It looks like the discounts are primarily available in the U.S. as of now, and are as follows:

  • $50 USD off PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle
  • $30 USD off Pulse Explore wireless earbuds
  • $30 USD off DualSense Edge wireless controller
  • $20 USD off Access controller
  • $20 USD off DualSense wireless controller
  • Various discounts on PS5 games, including Astro BotMLB The Show 25The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and LEGO Horizon Adventures.

If you need a second DualSense to hit up multiplayer games or want to check out the VR situation for PlayStation, now is a great time to grab to stock up on PS5 accessories. The discounts are available directly from Direct.PlayStation.Com or at “participating local retailers.”

A new leak has revealed that Sony may be releasing the PS6 sooner than we thought. Previously, the PS6 looked poised to release in 2028. This has been the prevailing assumption due to leaked Microsoft documents that reveal Microsoft is anticipating the next Xbox and PS6 to release in 2028. That said, these documents are old and it looks like dated. More recent rumors and reporting has suggested the next Xbox will be out before 2028. Meanwhile, now it looks like the same is also true of the PS6.

In a recent report, it was revealed that Supermassive Games was planning to release a new Blade Runner game for PS6 and other in platforms in 2027. According to the same report, the game has been cancelled so this is obviously no longer happening, but it nonetheless reveals that Supermassive Games was anticipating the PS6 release date to be 2027. Not only is Supermassive Games a former partner of PlayStation, but its owner, Nordisk, is an active partner of PlayStation. As The Phrase Maker points out, Nordisk even refers to itself as the Nordic home of PlayStation. Suffice to say, it is reasonable to think it would have an idea of when the PS6 is going to release.

This is reasonable speculation, however, it is worth noting that Sony, like other console manufacturers, is usually very tight lipped about these type of details, especially this far out. In fact, the vast majority of PlayStation employees have no idea when the PS6 will release. This information typically does not leave the rooms of company executives and the heads of marketing. However, sometimes partners are given estimates and information to guide their decision making so perhaps that is what is at play.

At the moment of publishing, none of the implicated parties have commented on anything above, and considering it is partially speculative, there is no reason to expect this to change as Sony, and most others, never comment on speculation. If there is any comment provided that is relevant though, we will update the story accordingly. In the meantime, for more coverage on all things PlayStation — including all of the latest PS6 news, all of the latest PS6 rumors, and all of the latest PS6 speculation — click here.

A new PS5 console exclusive game — currently only available on Steam — is releasing this week, though it is flying under the radar of many. Back on November 1, Ratshaker was released by Sunscorched Studios on PC, and it is one of the highest-rated 2024 releases on Steam, at least by the barometer of user reviews. On Steam, it has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating, the highest rating a game can earn on Steam, thanks to 95 percent of 2,238 user reviews rating the game positively.

All of that said, this week, on May 28, it is coming to PS5, and only PS5. It won’t be available on Xbox consoles nor any Nintendo platform, making it, for the time being, a PS5 console exclusive. And a cheap one at that. A price for the PS5 version has not been revealed yet, but the game is only $2.99 on Steam so it’s safe to assume even if it gets a price increase it is still going to be a very budget-friendly option for PS5 users. Unfortunately, for PS4 users there is no PS4 version arriving this week.

“Ratshakers — The Ultimate Solution to All Your RAT Problems,” reads an official description of the game for those unfamiliar with it. “Tired of pests taking over your space? Say goodbye to them for good with Ratshaker, the revolutionary new way to deal with unwanted pests! Just take and shake, and Ratshaker does the rest. No traps, no mess, no unmarked disposal barrels!”

The game’s official description continues: “With Ratshaker, you take control! Feel the satisfaction of watching the meter rise as you shake that rat into submission. The more you shake, the closer you get to solving your problems for good. Fast-acting, easy to use, and highly effective, Ratshaker ensures your space stays problem-free in no time.”

Those on PS5 and PS5 Pro that decide to check out Ratshaker when it hits the PlayStation Store this week should know it is a short experience that is only an hour or two long, as the price point suggests. Meanwhile, those on PS5 Pro specifically should not anticipate any enhancements, or at least if there are any they have not been outlined.

“One of a kind experience. Intriguing mechanics and story. Not scary but really unsettling in many ways,” reads one of the aforementioned user reviews.

Gaming consoles aren’t cheap, and many fans are still holding out when it comes to grabbing upgraded consoles like the PS5 Pro or tech like the PSVR systems. However, a rumored major sale for PS Plus subscribers could be the time to finally grab one of these expensive consoles. PlayStation enthusiasts have struggled to keep up with the rising cost of prices in recent years. From the shortages that plagued the PS5 after launch, to the painful price of a PlayStation 5 Pro, upgrading to the newest gen has been expensive both in time and money.

However, if new rumors prove to be correct, those with a PS Plus membership may have a chance to cash in on some excellent hardware deals.

PS Plus Members Prep For Possible Mega Sale

In a post shared to Reddit on the Gamingleaksandrumors subreddit, a big sale could be announced as part of the Days of Play 2025 celebration, going from May 28 through June 11.

The post, which cites the publication Dealabs, breaks down the possible sale, shows substantial discounts for PS5 Slim consoles, and slightly less intense discounts for the PS5 Pro and PSVR2. Slims would be discounted by 100 Euro, while the Pro would be down by 50 Euro. If a similar discount is used in the US, these consoles could be $50-$100 off the market price.

However, it is important to note that this sale is specifically for PlayStation Plus membership holders. These subscriptions range between $9.99 and $17.99, making them an investment for most gamers.

PlayStation 5 Anniversary Brings Back Classic Themes

The response to the sale in the comments of the Reddit post are mixed, with some stating that the discount only brings the consoles back down to the price they were before hikes. Others have added that players should resist purchasing the consoles, because even the discounted prices are too high for a device five years into its lifespan.

Others have encouraged those still lacking a PS5 to grab one during the possible sale, as there have been talks that tariffs will cause the prices to skyrocket in the coming months. These comments have seen reluctant agreements and anxiety from Sony fans.

Unfortunately, for many, the discount on the PS5 Pro does not put it in a price bracket affordable to most casual gamers. Even with a $50 discount, the console still sits at a staggering $650. The controversial pricetag has been cost-prohibitive for most Sony fans, leaving many to stick with their original PS5 consoles.

However, those still waiting to grab a PS5 console could get a new device for $400 during the possible sale. While that is exactly the price it was at release in 2020, it is substantially better than the $500 required to obtain one today.

At this time, Sony has not confirmed the PlayStation Plus subscription sale for the Days of Play 2025 celebration. However, with the beginning of the event only three days away, it will likely be confirmed or denied very soon.

Fans looking to grab a discounted PlayStation console can keep an eye out for any news on the PlayStation website or by checking in on the social media accounts for PlayStation and Sony.

In the meantime, those looking to participate in the Days of Play 2025 will want to make a list of the games they’d like to try out and keep an eye on any possible discounts for titles that can be purchased through the PlayStation store. PlayStation Plus subscriptions might also be renewable at a 30% discount, making it a great time to refresh your access and ensure you are ready to go for any other sales later in the year.

A free PS5 game has surpassed four million downloads on the PlayStation Store, according to a new official announcement from its publisher. Last year, PlayStation fans on PS5 were treated to the likes of Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Silent Hill 2, Black Myth: Wukong, and Rise of Ronin. These were all either exclusive to the console or were console exclusive, meaning only on PS5 and PC. This list is not exhaustive though, it is just the highlight. Meanwhile, while all of these are locked behind a purchase, there was actually a free PS5 exclusive released last year many frequently forget about.

Before Silent Hill 2 released in October of last year, Konami released Silent Hill: The Short Message in January of the same year. Where Silent Hill 2 received critical acclaim though, Silent Hill: The Short Message did not. That said, where Silent Hill 2 is $70 on the PlayStation Store, Silent Hill: The Short Message is free. And according to a new social media post from the official Silent Hill account on X, the free PS5 game has surpassed four million downloads on the PS Store.

Four million downloads is by no means the biggest return for a free PS5 game on the PlayStation Store, but it is still far more players than the vast majority of PS5 games on the PlayStation Store will ever garner. And for a smaller, experimental release it is not a bad return, which the post itself suggests. If Konami was ashamed of this figure it probably would not share it on social media. More than this, this is more players than have played the aforementioned Silent Hill 2.

It is also a good return considering how contentious the game is. On the PlayStation Store, it has a solid 4 out of 5 stars across 38,000 user reviews, but on Metacritic it currently sits at a score of 53, with a number of negative reviews.

“Following messages from her friend Maya, Anita finds herself at a crumbling apartment block, infamous for rumors of suicides,” reads an official description of the free PS5 game, straight from the PlayStation Store, for those unfamiliar with it. “Drawn inside, Anita soon finds her sense of reality shattered as she encounters bizarre, otherworldly spaces, haunted by a twisted monster. Maya’s message was clear — ‘can’t leave til you find it’ — but what is it that Anita is really looking for?”

For those curious in checking out Silent Hill: The Short Message on PS5, it is roughly two to three hours long, with little replayability. That said, length and replayability don’t particular matter when it is completely free to download.

Marathon is the next game from Bungie, the developer of the Destiny series, and it’s supposed to be released later this year. However, there are indications that something could be happening behind the scenes. According to a new report from the Sacred Symbols+ podcast (via The Game Post), Sony has cancelled its plans to do any paid marketing for Marathon this year. Right now, it’s unclear if this is a result of the recent controversy that has surrounded the game, and if this could indicate that the planned September 23rd release date has been pushed back.

“I was told by someone familiar with marketing plans in a key overseas market that there are now no plans to do paid marketing for Marathon at all,” said host Colin Moriarty. “I don’t know if those plans were affected by what has recently happened or if that was always the plan or whatever. But it is considered a fairly unusual move for a game of this high profile.”

bungie’s marathon is currently set to be released on PS5, xbox series x|s, and PC

Moriarty did not offer any additional information about what market that could be. However, his phrasing of “what has recently happened,” is likely a reference to accusations that a Marathon developer stole assets from the artist known as “ANTIREAL.” On May 15th, ANTIREAL pointed out several assets in the Marathon alpha that seemed to be pulled from designs the artist created in 2017. That same day, Bungie essentially admitted to the art theft in a series of posts on X/Twitter. The company stated that “a former Bungie artist included these in a texture sheet that was ultimately used in-game.” The development team is apparently looking into how this happened to prevent similar mistakes in the future, and says it is “committed to do right by the artist.”

The art theft controversy has put a lot of negative attention on Marathon, and some Bungie fans have argued that the game should be pushed back anyway. On top of the fact that reception to the gameplay hasn’t been great to begin with, many feel that it’s going to be difficult to turn around public sentiment in just a few months. Some see a delay as the only way to turn things around, and if this report is accurate, Sony could be planning to do just that.

Sony has been making a big push into live-service games over the last few years, to largely negative results. Last year’s high-profile Concord failure is still fresh in the minds of PlayStation users, and the only real live-service success story Sony has seen is Helldivers 2. Bungie was acquired by Sony in 2022, for the express purpose of helping with the whole live-service initiative. A few years later, Sony’s live-service games have largely failed to get off the ground, and Marathon seems to be limping towards the finish line. Until PlayStation and Bungie formally make an announcement about Marathon plans, we’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out.

PlayStation Plus subscribers are losing free access to one of the very best PS5 horror games. The good news for PS Plus Essential subscribers is they never had access to this PS Plus free game to begin with. The bad news for PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscribers is this is not the case. The PS5 game is currently free with both a PS Plus Extra and a PS Plus Premium subscription. However, come sometime in the middle of June this will change.

The game leaving the libraries of PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium is, more specifically, Inscryption, a 2021 release from developer Daniel Mullin Games and publisher Devolver Digital. A roguelike deck-building game with horror elements, Inscryption debuted as a PC-only game before coming to PS4 and PS5 in 2022. It would eventually come to Xbox consoles and the Nintendo Switch as well.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it boasts an 87 on Metacritic and was notably nominated for Best Independent Game and Best Sim/Strategy Game at The Game Awards 2021. Meanwhile, on the PlayStation Store it has a 4.73 out of 5 across more than 10,000 user reviews from PS4 and PS5 users.

While Inscryption is not a horror game in the purest sense, it certainly has strong psychological horror elements that blend and fuse with its deck-building roguelike gameplay and meta narrative.

“From the creator of Pony Island and The Hex comes the latest mind-melting, self-destructing love letter to video games,’ reads an official description of the PS4 and PS5 game on the PlayStation Store. “Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards…”

Currently, there is no specific date when Inscryption will leave PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, but it will be sometime in the middle of June. Once removed from PlayStation Plus there is no guarantee it will ever return to the subscription service, though games have certainly been removed and then added back at a later date.

Two years ago today, PlayStation held what is currently the most recent PlayStation Showcase. Plenty of State of Play presentations have taken place since then, but this was Sony’s last truly big blowout full of first-party announcements, AAA game reveals, and more. It had some bright spots, like confirmation of a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake and an extended look at Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gameplay. But in retrospect, it hasn’t aged well at all.

This was the first PlayStation livestream where you could feel the company’s push into live service in full force. Its biggest new reveals were live service games: Fairgame$, Helldivers 2, Concord, and Marathon. Looking back, only one of those games was a success, while all the others were failures or seem poised to be dead on arrival. PlayStation Showcase 2023 is one of Sony’s most infamous showcases of the past decade and will serve as a signifier of all the live service bets Sony tried to make this generation.

This PlayStation showcase got off on the wrong foot by starting with Fairgame$. It’s a purely cinematic trailer meant to highlight what the loop of the PvEvP shooter would be like. While it does that, nothing about Fairgame$ world or aesthetic was particularly eye-catching or original, just that this would be a shooter with a somewhat cringeworthy hacker-humor undertone. Considering Sony had games like Astro Bot, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and Stellar Blade in development at this time, it’s shocking that a CGI trailer for an unproven multiplayer new IP is what it chose to kick things off with.

Fairgame$’s situation hasn’t improved since then, either. The only times we’ve heard about it since from Sony are when it’s promoting the use of machine learning and AI, something a hardcore gaming fanbase isn’t too fond of. A recent report from Bloomberg also suggests Haven Studios co-founder Jade Raymond left the studio after Fairgame$ playtested poorly, suggesting that even two years later, Haven itself still hasn’t found the fun. For that reason, I don’t have too much faith in Fairgame$ making a splash whenever it comes out.

PlayStation immediately followed Fairgame$ up with the reveal of Helldivers 2. In retrospect, this is the live service game of the bunch that became a hit, which makes it a little embarrassing for Sony that it got second billing after Fairgame$. Helldivers 2’s reveal trailer is entertaining, but it feels like Sony didn’t know it had a hit on its hands with this sci-fi shooter. That’s almost as damning as the live service misfires Sony showcased during this stream.

The next first-party game to be shown off during this PlayStation Showcase was Bungie’s Marathon. This reveal trailer actually made Marathon pretty cool-looking at the time, but the situation has only worsened around this game. Learning it was an extraction shooter with hero shooter elements deflated excitement, and once hands-on with the game arrived, the general sentiment was that it didn’t do enough to stand out in the live service crowd.

Then, we learned that the aesthetic, which was already on full display in this reveal trailer, allegedly used concepts and designs from an artist who did not work at Bungie. Because of that, I can no longer look back at this reveal trailer and appreciate it as a piece of gorgeous animation or have faith in Marathon’s success when it comes out.

If I’m going to discuss proven Sony live service failures, we can’t ignore the final new first-party game revealed in this livestream prior to Spider-Man 2’s gameplay reveal: Concord.

At this point, Concord’s disastrous launch and delisting needs little introduction. Even then, there were warning signs from its reveal. Even though it was the most imminent shooter outside of Helldivers 2, all it was teased with here is a cinematic that mainly focuses on a spaceship entering warp speed. Maybe Sony knew its uninspired character design and game modes wouldn’t do much to captivate interested players. However, that should’ve raised alarms about the project if that were the case. It’s the final red flag planted in what should’ve been a triumphant showcase for Sony.

Looking back, the bright spots were for single-player games or indie titles. This was our first true indication of how amazing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be, and I love the reveal trailers for games like Phantom Blade 0, Sword of the Sea, and Revnant Hill. But for the most part, Sony seemed to want to use this showcase to promote the live service games it was working on, and even then, did not do the best job at that.

Helldivers 2 was the only one to show any gameplay, and I think that confidence and transparency are reasons why it was received well, whereas the other live service games shown off haven’t been. Many of these games weren’t ready to be revealed, and have only brought Sony bad publicity and player sentiment since.

PlayStation Showcase 2023 attempted to define Sony’s live service efforts but didn’t provide a flattering definition. One has to wonder if that’s why Sony has taken a step back from holding full-blown PlayStation Showcases in the two years since, and if this format will ever return.

A cult-classic PlayStation Vita game that was exclusive to the Sony handheld has now returned with a new remaster. While the PS Vita wasn’t all that popular throughout its brief run, some of the best games that appeared on the handheld have started to come back lately in the form of new ports and remasters. This was perhaps most prominently seen at the start of 2025 when Freedom Wars Remastered launched across a variety of new platforms. Now, the trend has continued with another Vita game, but for one reason or another, this revamp hasn’t hit PlayStation consoles.

As of this week, Bandai Namco has brought back Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny. Originally released in 2012, this lesser-known Gundam game was entirely exclusive to the Vita and never released elsewhere. Despite this, it was relatively well-received by those who played it, which is perhaps why Bandai Namco has chosen to remaster Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny roughly 13 years later.

As mentioned, the strange thing about Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered is that it has not been released for either PS5 or PS4. Despite being a Vita exclusive for well over a decade, Bandai Namco has opted to only release Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered on Nintendo Switch and PC platforms. Perhaps a release on PS5 and PS4 will happen in the future, but for now, it seems like the publisher is choosing to focus on other hardware.

To learn more about Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered and how this new version differs from the one seen on Vita, you can check out its new synopsis courtesy of Bandai Namco below.

The PlayStation Store is currently holding a “Multiverse of Games” sale through May and June 2025 that, strangely, has a ton of titles that have nothing to do with the multiverse. It’s a strange oversight or weird title for the sale, but, nonetheless, it’s got thousands of items at a deep discount. Some are even cheaper than they’ve ever been on PlayStation.

So to better help deal hunters sift through the deals, here are the 10 best games to pick up in the current “Multiverse of Games” sale. All sales are live until June 4th at 11:59 PM PT.

1) Mafia 3: Definitive Edition

Price: $5.99 / $29.99

Mafia: The Old Country is right around the corner, so it’s a fitting time to dive back into Mafia 3. This open-world third-person shooter follows Lincoln Clay as he works alongside the mafia to enact revenge and right some wrongs. And while that is the general backbone of most mafia media, Mafia 3 excels because of its ability to frame those tropes through a different perspective, and that makes it more than a reheated version of Goodfellas (which its predecessors are guilty of). Lincoln is an excellent, well-written protagonist and serves as a fitting anchor for such a lively time period. The loose gameplay may leave something to be desired, but this game’s vibes make up for it.

2) Helldivers 2

Price: $31.99 / $39.99

Helldivers 2 just keeps on giving. This cooperative-focused third-person shooter has squads dropping in on alien planets and spreading “democracy,” which comes in the form of airstrikes and relentless fire from juiced-up flamethrowers. While it sounds standard from its description, Helldivers 2 overcomes that by having enough varying systems that constantly bounce off each other to create interesting and often hilarious moments that often contain a fair bit of collateral damage and friendly fire. With such a massive arsenal and an endless supply of memorable player-driven anecdotes, Helldivers 2 is one of the best to ever do it in this genre. Developer Arrowhead Game Studios is also still changing and adding to the game frequently, as shown by its most recent update that implemented full weapon customization and a whole new planet.

3) Borderlands 3 Next Level Bundle

Price: $6.99 / $69.99

Borderlands 4‘s launch is also close, and while some players may have to scrouge up some extra cash in order to “find a way to make it happen,” an easier alternative would be just playing its cheaper predecessor, Borderlands 3. This vast looter shooter is more or less an ultimate version of the current Borderlands formula, which has players running around, collecting an intimidating amount of guns, and leveling up. Its writing may still be the ultimate form of cringe, but that’s not as important when playing cooperatively with a friend and drowning out the poor dialogue with heavy gunfire. This specific version doesn’t come with all of the DLC, yet it does include a few skins. The Ultimate Edition is also on sale for $24.99 and comes with these same cosmetics, as well as all three season passes.

4) Trials Rising

Price: $3.99 / $19.99

Ubisoft seems unconcerned with making more Trials games at the moment, but that’s fine since it’s hard to beat Trials Rising. Rising has all the physics-based obstacle courses that the series is known for, but also has a fantastic selection of levels that range from grounded, dirt-covered tracks to ones that look like they were pulled from a game show. It’s this balance, the silly nature of it all, and the series’ signature gameplay that’s easy to learn but incredibly hard to master that has made Trials Rising age well since its 2019 launch. The Gold Edition that comes with all the DLC is also $5.99 and might be worth it for those who want more, since these added tracks maintain the quality of the ones seen in the base game and aren’t just deathtraps made only for masters.

5) Citizen Sleeper: Helion Collection

Price: $23.19 / $39.99

The Citizen Sleeper games are some of the slower games on this list, but that doesn’t mean they’re not engaging. These cyberpunk games are renowned for their brilliant writing that paints quite an enthralling, if dour, picture of their dystopian worlds and the fleshed-out characters that inhabit them. It’s not just all dialogue, though, as these adventure games have their share of RPG systems to add more tension into the mix through dice rolls that get players into tricky situations.

6) Wolfenstein: Alt History Collection

Price: $11.99 / $59.99

There are few first-person shooter series as strong as the modern Wolfenstein games, so it’s handy that they’re all in one bundle. The standalone expansion The Old Blood may be a decent if predictable DLC, and the co-op-focused Youngblood is woefully misguided, but the two mainline installments have surprisingly poignant character-driven narratives with smooth and rewarding action-packed shooting that blend together wonderfully. The way in which MachineGames paints resistance in the face of pure evil is remarkable and is something other developers should take note of. This bundle doesn’t contain any of The New Colossus‘ episodic narrative-light DLC, though, but that’s excusable because these downloadable chapters were the weakest part of that experience.

7) Armored Core 6: Fires Of Rubicon

Price: $35.99 / $59.99

Armored Core 6 is a small departure from FromSoftware’s normal output, but it’s still got many of the same general qualities the team’s more traditional Soulslike games have. It has punishing combat, climactic boss fights, and a ton of RPG systems, but it’s able to leverage its setting to ensure that it has its own style that’s quite different from games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. Being able to blast enemy robots and create Fourth of July-level fireworks with a handpicked set of cannons is a thrill and hits that fantasy of designing a custom mech quite well.

8) Jusant

Price: $9.99 or $8.74 for PlayStation Plus subscribers / $24.99

Don’t Nod is known for its Life is Strange games, but its best game is not about emotional, superpowered teens; it’s about climbing. Jusant has players simply scale a huge mountain. There are no enemies or villains. However, this game still engages players through its intuitive mechanics that make would-be climbers consider every handhold as they manage their stamina, tool set, and ever-changing environment that constantly serves up new obstacles. It has next to no filler and is the type of honed title that more teams should try to make.

9) Dragon Ball FighterZ — Legendary Edition

Price: $27.49 / $109.99

There’s a reason Dragon Ball FighterZ became one of the most beloved anime fighters and took over many tournaments. FighterZ has a deep and fast-paced tag-focused fighting system that’s likely to capture players who loved any Marvel vs. Capcom game, yet is also able to have its own style, thanks to the stunning visual style and fittingly over-the-top animation. It is attached to one of the most recognizable franchises in all of media — and it utilizes that connection well and undeniably helps the overall game — but it doesn’t solely lean on that. There is no crossplay, but the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions at least benefit from rollback netcode that makes online play smoother. This Legendary Edition also comes with all three character packs and a few other pieces of DLC.

10) Patrick’s Parabox

Price: $11.99 / $19.99

Patrick’s Parabox has a strange and mysterious title, but it’s one of the more unique puzzle games to come out in the last few years. Its 350 or so puzzles have players thinking outside the literal box, as they have to move their little square protagonist inside puzzles that also have their own mini-puzzles. Essentially, it is a bit like a puzzle game version of Inception since it has puzzles within puzzles, but, sadly, it doesn’t star Leonardo DiCaprio.

As the gaming industry prepares for the sunny season with Summer Game Fest and the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, there’s a lot of mystery surrounding what players should expect from the top game companies and studios. Per tradition, companies like Microsoft/Xbox and Nintendo save their best surprises for the summer season, as the former E3 schedule inspired this annual cadence. PlayStation has also typically held a State of Play or PlayStation Showcase in proximity to SGF, often in either May or June. And while there have been rumors of Sony skipping out on this summer window for 2025 to opt for a later presentation, one industry insider has refuted this by saying that PlayStation will hold an event in June.

Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb has recently taken to social media to share that he has heard of a PlayStation showing for June. The post stated, “PlayStation event in June. That’s the entirety of what I can confirm. No specific dates. Not sure if it’s a State of Play or a big boy Showcase, but I lean towards State of Play. That’s it. Anything else that people add is their own speculation.”

PlayStation is rumored to have a State of Play in June.

While this isn’t an outright confirmation as we have yet to hear from Sony or PlayStation, Grubb is a well-established insider, so it’s safe to assume that what he’s saying is reliable. Seeing how PlayStation has a few AAA titles coming out later this year, including Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2: On The Beach and Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei, there’s a possibility that a State of Play focused on one of these games would make sense. With Death Stranding 2 coming up in June, it’s a safe bet that we’ll see this title take center stage if there is a PlayStation State of Play next month. There’s also the chance that the focus could be on games coming out in 2026, but PlayStation has usually opted to bring more attention to future games closer to their launch.

What do you think about a new PlayStation State of Play happening in June? What games do you hope to see at the showcase? Let us know in the comments below!

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has proven enormously popular since launching last month. The game’s success seems to have even taken its developers by surprise; by Sandfall Interactive’s own admission, the collector’s edition sold out way earlier than anticipated. Thankfully, there’s going to be a new version for those that missed out. The Monolith Set was announced this morning, and it will include many of the same items that were in the collector’s edition, with the exception of the game itself, and the cosmetics. As a result, the Monolith Set will actually be cheaper than the collector’s edition was!

The set itself will cost $119.99, and it will contain the Steelbook case, Monolith music box, and Expedition Journal Artbook that were all available previously in the collector’s edition. Basically, if you bought the game but missed the set, this really is the perfect option. There is a catch, however, and it’s a pretty big one: the Monolith Set will likely have a higher price in the U.S. than Europe. U.S. based customers will see higher prices on shipping, and there might be import duties as well. In a post on the game’s official X/Twitter account, this was attributed directly to the tariff situation playing out right now in the U.S. with China.

The Monolith Set will be available for preorders starting this week

“Due to the ongoing tariff situation between the US and China, shipping costs to the US will be higher to account for potential charges at delivery, and US customers may incur additional import duty,” the announcement reads.

Tariffs have already proven to be a major cause for concern for gamers. Since U.S. President Donald Trump announced the tariffs on goods coming from China, several companies have been forced to increase the price of goods to offset the extra costs. Notably, several Nintendo Switch 2 peripherals have seen a price increase ahead of their release next month, including items like the camera, Pro Controller, and amiibo figures. Similarly, Microsoft announced a price increase on a number of Xbox products earlier this month, though the company avoided directly mentioning the tariffs in its announcement.

Preorders for the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Monolith Set will begin on Friday, May 23rd and will run through Thursday, June 12th at 8 a.m. PT. There will be a limit of two Monolith Sets per person, which the developers say is an attempt to prevent people from reselling it on the secondary market. Considering the absolutely absurd price the collector’s edition goes for on eBay at the moment, that’s probably a good move. Hopefully there will be more than enough quantity of the Monolith Set to meet demand, but fans of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 should be ready to preorder tomorrow just to be on the safe side!

PlayStation is reportedly skipping the summer gaming season that has historically been reserved for E3 and Summer Game Fest. PlayStation is one of the biggest companies out there in the gaming industry, but it has had some stumbles this generation. Sony recovered pretty strong from the PS3 era with the PS4. It was a great, affordable console with constant bangers that helped PlayStation really reclaim its strong reputation from the PS2 era. It was a lot of great momentum going into the PS5 generation, but it has been shaky. A lot of PlayStation games have been canceled, we are getting less big first party games, and the direction of the company is a bit confusing.

The PS5 is still very much a strong console and it’s far from a misfire, but there’s definitely a lack of consistency. On top of that, a lot of developers are still releasing games for PS4, so a lot of people feel like we haven’t seen the true power of this console yet. That seems to be slowing down, but the PS5 is likely toward the end of its life cycle now and it feels like this generation may come to a close with only a small handful of great exclusives. Perhaps there’s more up PlayStation’s sleeve, but a new rumor suggests it may be a bit before we really find out.

PlayStation May Skip a Summer State of Play This Year

intergalactic: the heretic prophet

According to ResetEra user and insider John Harken responded to another user who was speculating that PlayStation may not have a showcase or State of Play this summer and instead save it for around September. Harken simply said “Indeed”, which other users took as some kind of confirmation as he’s historically well connected. It was rumored earlier in the year that PlayStation would have a showcase this summer, which is historically different from a State of Play. A State of Play is more bite-sized and typically focused on games that are right around the corner. A showcase focuses on games that are further out and usually has a longer runtime.

This wouldn’t be too surprising as we usually begin to hear rumors and rumblings of what PlayStation would show at these events by now. However, it’s been abnormally silent and other insiders have said they haven’t heard anything about any kind of summer event. If true, this would be the first time since 2019 that PlayStation hasn’t had some kind of notable presence during the summer gaming festivities. Xbox and a bunch of third-party studios will have plenty to show and it’s not unlikely that PlayStation still has something to show during Summer Game Fest to keep fans satisfied, but don’t expect a big presence.

Death Stranding 2 is PlayStation’s next game and then Ghost of Yotei will arrive in October. Those are the company’s two biggest games for the rest of the year, but we don’t know much about what’s coming next year or beyond. Some are hoping that a new PlayStation event will have new footage for Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet or even their unannounced second game. Only time will tell, though.

What do you want to see from PlayStation’s next event? Let me know in the comments.

PlayStation Stars has always been a controversial program, but the news that the program is officially shutting down has left many bitter. PlayStation Stars first launched in 2022 and is now leaving only three short years later. Sony intended for the loyalty program to be a way to celebrate players and offered free rewards to players simply for playing games. With this announcement, new players can not sign up for PlayStation Stars and no new PlayStation Stars campaigns will be available after July 23. Players can however still complete previous campaigns to unlock Digital Collectibles and earn points to redeem on digital rewards.

PlayStation Stars will officially shut down on November 2nd, 2026. After this time, players will not be able to earn new points but can continue redeeming them as long as the points do not expire. Players should not cancel their PlayStation Stars accounts or they will not be able to rejoin the loyalty program. Additionally, Digital Collectibles can still be accessed after the program has ended.

Along with the announcement, Sony commented it plans to “continue to evaluate our key findings from this program, and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings.” This may hint at a new program in the future that will replace PlayStation Stars, but there is no guarantee. Sony referred to it as “the current version of PlayStation Stars,” further supporting this theory.

PlayStation Stars has been criticized in the past, especially after Sony made a major change. That said, many praised it for the rewards it offered. The loyalty program was always an optional service and PlayStation fans will be sad to see it go. Until that time, players can continue to earn rewards and complete their current PlayStation Stars campaigns.

Xbox is reportedly making some big changes with its next console which may allow PlayStation games to be playable on it, but not in the way you’d expect. Xbox is constantly redefining how we interact with consoles. They are trying to innovate in new ways all of the time with things like Xbox Live, Xbox Game Pass, and much more. The original vision for Xbox One was pretty ahead of its time and may have been more embraced now, but ultimately, it wasn’t met with kind words back in 2013. Xbox is now breaking down barriers by selling Xbox exclusives on PlayStation. This started with smaller, older games like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush but is expanding more.

It was recently confirmed that Gears of War is coming to PlayStation 5 later this year alongside a new remaster for Xbox and PC, bringing a tentpole Xbox franchise to Microsoft’s rival platform. It’s great for gamers on PlayStation and even those who just love these franchises unconditionally, but some Xbox fans have begun to feel like they are missing out in some way. PlayStation gets seemingly everything, while Xbox players are missing out on The Last of Us or Marvel’s Spider-Man. These are games that are defining the industry right now and it feels like Xbox is sharing a bit more than others. However, that might change in a way very soon.

The Next Xbox Could Feature PlayStation Games Via Steam

A new report from Windows Central reveals some of the decision making for the next Xbox. There was a pitch to ditch backward compatibility for the next Xbox in favor of leaning into Windows 11 compatibility. Thankfully, it seems like that pitch was rejected and won’t be part of the console’s future, but Xbox is expanding in other ways. Xbox is reportedly talking to PC storefronts like Valve to bring a platform like Steam to Xbox. There’s some debate over how this could actually benefit Xbox, as it would mean Xbox is giving people another place to buy their games. However, one key thing here is that it could be a clever work around to bring PlayStation games to Xbox.

PlayStation has ported a bunch of its games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to PC. Essentially, a lot of the biggest PS4 and PS5 games could be playable on Xbox, so long as there isn’t some weird restriction. It sounds like Microsoft really wants to turn Xbox into more of a pre-built PC at an affordable price point, not too dissimilar from Valve’s Steam Machines. This could be a viable way for Xbox to stay in the game as the PC market is becoming increasingly popular and this would be a really easy entry point for people who are intimidated by buying or even building such an expensive machine.

Only time will tell how this all shakes out, but it seems like Xbox is taking some big swings with its next console. We probably won’t see it for another couple of years, but it’ll be interesting to see what the next era of Xbox is as it defies so many traditions of console gaming already.

A PS3 game from 2009 — which was also available on PS3 and PSP — has received a surprise update 16 years after its release, courtesy of the PS Plus Classics Catalog and PS Plus Premium. As many will know, 2009 was one of the all-time great years in video games. The likes of Minecraft (alpha), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Assassin’s Creed II, New Super Mario Bros, Resident Evil 5, Left 4 Dead 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Just Dance, Dragon Age: Origins, Infamous, Plants vs Zombies, Halo 3: ODST, FarmVille, Empire Total War, Brutal Legend, Wii Sports Resort, Borderlands, Demon’s Souls, Forza Motorsport 3, FIFA 10, League of Legends, and more all released. The point is 2009 was absolutely stacked. Unfortunately, the 2009 game in question is not of this caliber, but it will be equally nostalgic for some.

More specifically, the official Up video game, which was recently added to PS Plus Premium, has been updated, and now it has PlayStation Trophy support. With the update, the 2009 PS3, PS2, and PSP game now has 21 Trophies, including a Platinum Trophy. This applies to both the PS4 version of the game and the PS5 version of the game, which have the same trophies, however, they will need to be unlocked separately. In other words, the trophies do not stack for those looking for a quick two Platinums.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Up was developed by Heavy Iron Studios and published by THQ. As noted, it is based on the Pixar film of the same name. Upon release, it garnered a Metacritic score of 65, which is representative of the type of score most licensed video games of this time earned.

In addition to being free with a PS Plus Premium subscription, it is also available via the PlayStation Store for just $5.99. This offer is available to both PS4 and PS5 users.

One of May’s free PlayStation Plus games is a huge hit with PS Plus subscribers on PS4 and PS5, according to a new report. For may 2025, PlayStation Plus subscribers were treated to the following three free games: Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. The first of these three free games is only available to PS Plus subscribers on PS5, while the latter two are available to both subscribers on PS4 and PS5. Meanwhile, all three PlayStation Plus free games are available to all PS Plus subscribers, no matter the tier of their subscription. And they are all available to download for free until June 3.

According to data from True Trophies, Balatro is by far the most-played free PlayStation Plus game this month. Adding to this it is claimed it is the third biggest PlayStation Plus release in terms of number of players of the year, behind only High on Life in February and RoboCop Rogue City from April. To this end, since True Trophies began collecting data on this in 2023, it is the 7th biggest PlayStation Plus release yet.

For those familiar with the new free PlayStation Plus game this is probably not that surprising, but for those unfamiliar with it Balatro is a roguelike deck-building Poker game. Developed by LocalThunk and published by Playstack, it debuted back on February 20, 2024, and is widely considered one of the best games of the year. This is most evident by its 90-95 score range on Metacritic. Coupling this, as of earlier this year, it had sold over five million copies.

Further decorations include nominations for Game of the Year and Best Game Direction at The Game Awards 2024 and awards for Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Mobile Game.

“Balatro is a poker-inspired roguelike deck builder all about creating powerful synergies and winning big,” reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Store. “The poker roguelike. Balatro is a hypnotically satisfying deckbuilder where you play illegal poker hands, discover game-changing jokers, and trigger adrenaline-pumping, outrageous combos. Combine valid poker hands with unique Joker cards in order to create varied synergies and builds. Earn enough chips to beat devious blinds, all while uncovering hidden bonus hands and decks as you progress. You’re going to need every edge you can get in order to reach the boss blind, beat the final ante and secure victory.”

Those that decide to check out Balatro via PlayStation Plus should expect to are bare minimum put about 7 hours into the game to beat it. However, mix in side content and you are looking at a game that is more like 40 hours long. Completionists, on the other hand, will need north over 200 hours with the Poker game.

A new, free PS5 game is getting positive reviews on the PlayStation Store, suggesting it may be worth checking out. Right now, it is a busy time on PS5. The last several weeks, PS5 and PS5 Pro users have been treated to the likes of Game of the Year frontrunner Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a remaster of one of the best RPGs of all time in the form of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and a new DOOM game in the form of DOOM: The Dark Ages. Meanwhile, on the horizon are games like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Elden Ring Nightreign. And then before this, there was the likes of Monster Hunter Wilds, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Split Fiction, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. During all of this Xbox even brought one of its best games to the PS5, Forza Horizon 5.

All of that said, those on PS5 who somehow have the bandwidth to check out something new may be interested in knowing a new, free-to-play game was released on the PlayStation Store this week called Palia, and it is apparently pretty good. This is at least what its 4.15 out of 5 stars on the PlayStation Store suggests. This solid rating is after more than 1,200 user reviews for the game.

Palia, for those who have never heard of it, is a 2023 life sim meets MMO. Since 2023, the game was only available on PC and Nintendo Switch, but this week it came to other platforms, including PS5. Developed and published by Los Angeles-based studio Singularity 6, it offers a ton of content, as free-to-play MMOs often do. To this end, the game takes a bare minimum of 60 to 70 hours to complete, though it is very easy to sink a few hundred hours into the free-to-play title.

“Discover a welcoming world in Palia, a free-to-play fantasy life sim adventure where you can craft, explore, and create the life and home of your dreams,” reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Store, for those unfamiliar with it. “With nearly endless ways to make Palia your home, you’ll find relaxation and joy in every corner of this vibrant, heartwarming world.”

Those that decide to check out Palia on PlayStation 5 won’t need to open up their wallet, but they will need to clear 22 GB of space on the PS5 console in order to download the entire game.

A highly rated and fan-favorite Nintendo Switch console exclusive has been stealth released on both PS4 and PS5 via the PlayStation Store. The Nintendo Switch game in question notably has a score of 88 on Metacritic and an even more impressive user review score on Steam, the only other platform it is available on. On Steam, the game has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating thanks to 96 percent of 2,863 user reviews rating the game positively. This is the highest rating a game can earn on Steam.

Out of nowhere, Shadows Over Loathing is now available on PS4 and PS5, via a $22.99 purchase on the PlayStation Store. For those unfamiliar with this game, it debuted back in 2022 via developer Asymmetric, who also published the game. Shadows Over Loathing is notably the sophomore effort from the studio, which previously put out West of Loathing in 2017. This game is a follow-up to West of Loathing, but not a direct sequel in the sense you need to play the first game to understand what is going on in the follow-up

As noted, previously the game has only been available on Nintendo Switch and PC. It still has not come to Xbox consoles, but it is now on PS4 and PS5. And so far, PlayStation users are loving it, or at least that is what its perfect user review score on the PlayStation Store suggests.

“Your Uncle Murray has requested your aid at his antique shop in Ocean City, but upon your arrival the old man is nowhere to be found,” reads an official description of the game, for those unfamiliar with it. “Your investigation into his disappearance and the artifacts he’s been collecting takes a turn when you stumble across some shadowy plots (and a bunch of squirming eldritch tentacles) that threaten to bring about the end of the world.”

Those that decide to pick up Shadows Over Loathing on PS5 or PS5 Pro — or PS4 — should expect to put somewhere close to 15 hours into the game just to see its main story. Those that want to also experience the game’s side content will need closer to 20 hours with the game or maybe a few hours more than this. Completionists on the other hand will need more like roughly 30 hours with the RPG.

The next Xbox game coming to PS5 has seemingly — but not officially — been confirmed, and it is one of the biggest upcoming Xbox releases. Xbox games continue to come to PS5 at what seems like an increasing rate. To this end, the novelty of seeing an Xbox game on the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Game Studios splash screen when you boot up a PS5 game has worn off. However, now the Xbox staples are starting to come to PS5, revitalizing the novelty. This month, Forza Horizon 5 came to PS5, for example. And then this August Gears of War Reloaded is coming to PS5.

There are two brand synonymous with Xbox: Gears of War and Halo. There’s a case that Forza is as synonymous, but when you think of Xbox you think of Halo and Gears of War probably. Halo has yet to come to PS5 in any capacity, but 19 years after it debuted on Xbox, Gears of War is coming to a PlayStation machine. That is a little surreal, and it presumably means Gears of War E-Day is also going to come to PS5.

For those out of the loop, Gears of War E-Day was announced back in June 2024 for PC and Xbox Series X, by series developer The Coalition, who took over the reigns of the series from Epic Games after Gears of War 3. It is a brand-new installment and a prequel to the previous Gears of War games.

Gears of Wars: E-Day Marcus Fenix

There is no word from Microsoft of the game coming to PS5, but surely if Gears of War Reloaded is coming to PS5 then that means the series will be on PS5 going forward. Now, whether it will be on PS5 at launch or come after is a better question, but surely PS5 users can now add one of the most highly anticipated Xbox games to their release radar. Unfortunately, there is no word of when Gears of War: E-Day will release.

Of course, take everything here for what it is, speculation. In the meantime, for more PlayStation 5 coverage — including all of the latest PS5 news, all of the latest PS5 rumors and leaks, and all of the latest PS5 deals — click here.

The PlayStation Store is now running a “PlayStation Indies” sale in May 2025 that covers hundreds (if not thousands) of games. Some of these stretch the definition of “indie” or are otherwise Platinum trophy bait, but there are still many titles worth looking into. Here are the 10 best games to pick up in the current “PlayStation Indies” sale. All sales are live until May 28th at 11:59 PM PT.

1) Signalis

Price: $13.99 / $19.99

Signalis takes heavy inspiration from the PS1 era of Silent Hill and Resident Evil games, but it goes beyond those comparisons and creates something completely its own. The well-designed puzzles, disturbing enemies, and inventory management systems evoke those classic games but also go one step beyond. Puzzles are not only rewarding to solve; they also make sense within the world and add to its lore. Combat is tough without being frustrating or overly clumsy. And while it would be worth playing for its haunting gameplay, its unforgettable narrative is what gives it the staying power that the best survival horror games have. It’s haunting and full of secrets worth tracking down, yet it tantalizes players by not giving them the full picture, leading to endless speculation.

2) Fear the Spotlight

Price: $12.99 / $19.99

Fear the Spotlight takes similar cues from the PS1 generation of horror games, but is not as tight or cohesive as Signalis. However, that’s more of a testament to Signalis’ wildly high quality than a damnation of Fear the Spotlight. This debut title from developer Cozy Game Pals follows a young girl trapped in a school that’s been haunted after a seance she performed with a friend. It’s not combat-oriented, meaning most of it revolves around solving puzzles and not blasting the spotlight-headed creature stalking the halls. It’s a modest and relatively well-paced game that acts as a welcome throwback to a previous era where the genre came into its own.

3) Alien: Rogue Incursion VR

Price: $19.99 / $39.99

Alien: Rogue Incursion VR is getting a non-VR version on September 30th, but a series like Alien feels more appropriate for virtual reality. Gunning down Xenomorphs and sneaking around can be a little wonky at times, but the thick atmosphere makes up for it. Alien: Isolation never got an official VR port, making this the best way to get too close to a Xenomorph.

4) Telltale’s Batman: Shadows Edition

Price: $11.99 / $29.99

Rocksteady Studios’ Batman games are often the premier Batman games people think about, but that does a disservice to Telltale Games’ two-season run with the Dark Knight. Even though they are not oriented around action, these narrative-based adventures delve into a different side of Bruce Wayne and Batman and excel through their well-told stories. The first season drops off a little near the end — a common Telltale problem — but the twisty second season featuring Joker has some of the strongest writing in any Batman game ever made.

5) The Messenger

Price: $3.99 / $19.99

Sabotage Studio made one of 2023’s most well-received RPGs with Sea of Stars, but it cut its teeth with 2017’s acclaimed platformer, The Messenger. The Messenger takes heavy cues from the old Ninja Gaiden games and features platforming that requires precision, a task its tight controls are more than up for the task for. However, it’s the clever mid-game twist and earworm-heavy soundtrack that truly stick out all these years later. It’s even got a whole free tropical expansion called Picnic Panic that makes this deal even sweeter.

6) Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition

Price: $4.49 / $29.99

Spiritfarer looks like a charming and innocent cozy game about managing a boat, and it is in many respects. However, it also deals with heavy topics like loss and death, something that may be particularly potent for those who love their pets. The Farewell Edition includes even more free content like an additional map, two new spirits, and more recipes, to name a few. It may be a lot longer than people expect — it’s around 25 to 30 hours for most — but the way it handles the subjects it brings up makes it worth the time.

7) Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD

Price: $7.99 / $19.99

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD has persisted for two decades because it’s, well, odd. This strange first-person shooter has a lot in common with the Ratchet & Clank series thanks to its silly approach to gunplay. Instead of firing AK-47s at personality-free combatants, players fire fuzzy gerbil-like creatures at sassy aliens that like to yap at the player. Stranger’s Wrath proves that it’s worth placing established genre conventions in different scenarios so they can evolve and grow.

8) Bramble: The Mountain King

Price: $5.99 / $29.99

Bramble: The Mountain King, to be reductive, is a lot like Limbo and Inside but steeped in Nordic mythology. And while it can’t shake those obvious inspirations, Bramble is not just a derivative cinematic platformer with nothing to offer. It has its own share of memorable set pieces with large monsters and a strange, mostly wordless story that’s like a dark fable, one that hasn’t been watered down to be more palatable.

9) Immortality

Price: $8.99 or $6.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers / $19.99

Immortality is an FMV-heavy game from the fabled creators of Her Story and Telling Lies, but it’s not about watching live-action cutscenes and then picking dialogue lines. Immortality has players seeking through films and behind-the-scenes footage in order to piece together what happened to one of the main actors. It’s all predicated on mystery and player-driven discoveries, making this a smart choice for those who like to dig into the details.

10) Jazzpunk: Director’s Cut

Price: $3.74 / $14.99

Strange barely begins to describe Jazzpunk: Director’s Cut. This off-the-wall adventure game doesn’t have a central mechanic but is instead based around doing bizarre tasks for bizarre characters. It’s got silly writing and doesn’t overstay its welcome, which is key for a comedic experience like this.

A recent leak has revealed another update, Heart of Democracy, is coming soon for Helldivers 2. This comes not long after the long-awaited update that added the Illuminate and weapon customization to the game. This leak was quickly removed, but fans managed to capture screenshots of the supposed Heart of Democracy update planned for May 20th, possibly confirming the suspicions of a final confrontation against the Illuminate on Super Earth. The update video itself hints at this, and players provided supporting evidence. This leak may be the final piece of the puzzle to confirm the Illuminate landing on Super Earth.

The leaked announcement comes from Sony’s Czech Republic branch. In a social media post, it was revealed a major update, titled Heart of Democracy, would be released on May 20th. While not much is known due to the leaked nature, fans have assumed it refers to Super Earth and that players would battle the Illuminate here. While taken down, Helldivers 2 fan Iron_S1ghts managed to capture it beforehand.

Fans have pointed out that most of the new missions in the most recent update task the player with delaying or slowing down the Illuminate. The Illuminate are a powerful force in Helldivers 2 and have been teased for a long time. It wouldn’t be surprising for Arrowhead Games to have something major planned for a final confrontation, and Super Earth is the perfect battleground.

Another factor supporting this timeline is the lack of enemies added in the update. Arrowhead Games has teased this faction for a long time and this update doesn’t seem to do it justice. Unless you consider the May 20th release as the main portion of the update and the previous update as a sneak peek. This smaller release with few enemies could also act as a scouting party for the Illuminate to come.

Only time will tell, but there isn’t long to wait before May 20th and fans see if this leak is real. Do you think the Illuminate will attack in full on May 20th and bring the fight to Super Earth? Let us know in the comments below!

PlayStation Plus subscribers are threatening Sony that they will cancel their subscriptions following a new, controversial update. As you may know, there are three tiers of PS Plus: PS Plus Essential, PS Plus Extra, and PS Plus Premium. Only one of these PS Plus tiers grants access to an evolving library of PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games, and that is PlayStation Plus Premium. Free and unlimited access to this library of PlayStation classics from yesteryear is the main appeal of PS Plus Premium, and typically Sony expands and freshens the library by adding at least two PS Plus Premium classics every month. For the month of May though, there is only one addition, and subscribers are not happy about it.

May’s free PlayStation Plus Premium game, more specifically, is Battle Engine Aquila, a fairly obscure PS2 release from 2003. This is a somewhat underwhelming pick for many PlayStation fans, and the fact it is the only PS Plus Premium game this month makes the whole matter all the more worse.

To this end, over on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page — and elsewhere — PS Plus subscribers across PS4 and PS5 are not happy, and in some cases are threatening to cancel their subscriptions.

“I hope they are saving the games for days of play because I refuse to believe they would put one unknown game in Premium,” reads one of the comments. “Very concerning, I’ll drop the premium subscription if that’s the new standard,” reads another comment about the situation.

A third comment further adds: “Yeah I’m definitely letting my subscription expire in June, what a let down.”

Whether one PlayStation Plus Premium game is going to be the standard going forward remains to be seen, but if it is, it looks like Sony is going to lose some subscribers. That said, at the moment of publishing, Sony has not spoken on the backlash nor provided any clarity on what the future of PS Plus Premium is going forward. If this changes we will update the story accordingly.

It seems like one of PlayStation’s big upcoming online games could be headed toward the same fate as Concord. PlayStation’s strategy for the PS5 generation has been… puzzling to say the least. After absolutely crushing it last generation with non-stop amazing single player games, PlayStation decided to make a bigger pivot to live-service games. While there have been some great single player games on PS5, they’ve been few and far between. Astro Bot and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are the last notable ones (that aren’t second party games like Silent Hill 2) and one of those was a year and a half ago.

PlayStation has since canceled a bunch of live-service games including a new God of War and perhaps more upsettingly, the long-awaited Last of Us Online, a game that people really wanted. Unfortunately, Naughty Dog felt that it was best to scrap the game in order to continue developing single player games as an online game would’ve pulled too many resources away from the development of its bread and butter. PlayStation took another hit last year with the failure of Concord, a total misfire that aimed to compete with live-service shooters like Overwatch or Destiny. The game was released to extremely low player counts and then was removed from sale a week later, prompting the studio to also be shuttered.

It was a bomb like no one had ever seen in this industry. It seemed like PlayStation expected it to be the next big thing, but it wasn’t. It also seemed like PlayStation was pulling back on future live service efforts. However, there are still more coming down the pipeline. Bungie will release Marathon later this year and hopefully that will succeed. Then sometime later, we will get a new game called Fairgames. The multiplayer PS5 game is still a bit of a mystery, but it was from a new PlayStation team called Haven, led by Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond.

Is Fairgames Going to Be Another Concord Situation for PlayStation?

fairgames

Unfortunately, we may be looking at another Concord situation. Bloomberg has reported that Jade Raymond has left Haven, a puzzling move since Haven has yet to ship a game. Why set up a studio just to leave it a few years later? No one really knows why Raymond left. Of course, this could be because of personal reasons and that should be respected if that’s the case. However, Raymond has had a rocky track record when it comes to seeing games through. Some of this is out of her control, such as when she went to work on Google Stadia and that ended up being dissolved by Google.

With that said, Bloomberg has reported that Fairgames isn’t being received well. Raymond’s departure comes shortly after external testing for the new PS5 game. Those tests reportedly led to concerns about the state of the game and how it’s progressing from the staff at Haven. The PlayStation game was apparently planning to release this fall, but it has shifted to spring 2026… which puts it close to the release of GTA 6 and depending on what EA does, possibly the release of Battlefield 6 as well.

While it’s totally possible Fairgames manages to stick the landing, the signs are concerning and could lead to another extremely expensive bomb for PlayStation, not dissimilar from Concord. Releasing close to potentially multiple gaming giants that will swallow up the online gaming community and it not being very good would be devastating. Of course, I hope this game is good. I want PlayStation to succeed and I don’t want to see another studio have all of its time and talent wasted once again. I just hope that the people in charge are taking the best approach possible to making sure this game succeeds. Only time will tell what happens, but hopefully, we hear more about Fairgames soon.

Stellar Blade Free PSN Outfit

The popular action game Stellar Blade launched in late 2024 as a PS5 exclusive, quickly earning the highest Metacritic score for any PS5 release. However, PC gamers are finally about to get a chance to experience the game when it arrives on Steam on June 11th. Developer ShiftUp recently revealed that Stellar Blade will release for PC alongside its new Complete Edition version. Naturally, pre-ordering the standard or Complete Edition of Stellar Blade comes with plenty of bonuses, but there’s one extra deal for gamers with a PSN account.

ShiftUp and PlayStation previously revealed the exciting new bonuses that players will get for pre-ordering Stellar Blade for PC or the Complete Edition for PC or PS5. Naturally, this includes some DLC content alongside a few special cosmetics for the game’s protagonist, EVE. The Complete Edition includes a few bonus perks alongside the regular pre-purchase bonuses, but apparently, ShiftUp wasn’t quite finished giving out bonuses. There’s one more special offer available for PSN customers, featuring another free EVE costume.

Stellar Blade PSN Free Costume PC Release
ShiftUp’s Image for the free PSN Stellar Blade bonus

This perk is a bit of a weird one. Gamers who buy Stellar Blade for PC via Steam, then connect their Steam and PlayStation Network accounts, will unlock the free bonus costume. Since a PSN account won’t be required to play the game on Steam, this may be an incentive to get gamers to sign up if they aren’t already using a PSN account for PlayStation.

The featured cosmetic is the EVE Planet Diving Suit (2nd), a sleek, futuristic black costume featured in Stellar Blade. The fine print notes that gamers will only be able to access the cosmetic while their Steam and PSN accounts remain connected, so no quick turning it on and back off again here.

What is the EVE Planet Diving Suit (2nd) Freebie?

This freebie is an incentive for PC gamers to link up with their PSN accounts on Steam. Given Stellar Blade’s connection to PlayStation, that certainly makes some sense. But while free cosmetics are always exciting, it’s important to note that the Planet Diving Suit (2nd) is not an exclusive reward. So, if you don’t have a PSN account or know how to connect it to Steam, it’s not impossible for you to get the costume. You just won’t get it for free, or immediately after downloading Stellar Blade for PC on June 11th.

The 2nd Planet Diving Suit costume for EVE is available in Roxanne’s Shop, which is located in Xion. The suit typically costs 3 Vitcoin, an in-game currency that you collect from various chests and by completing side quests in the game. Not every outfit is available right away, so you do need to get the shop’s affinity up before you can buy outfits like the Planet Diving Suit (2nd).

So, while it is possible for gamers who don’t link their PSN and Steam accounts to get this EVE cosmetic, you will get it earlier and arguably more easily through this free bonus. Gamers who have a PSN account and who plan to play Stellar Blade on PC when it launches may as well take advantage of this extra perk. After all, this particular EVE costume is a go-to look for many players thanks to its sleek design, so why not have the option to wear it earlier, and for free?

Stellar Blade is available now for PS5. It launches for PC on June 11th, alongside the new Complete Edition for PC and PS5. The Standard Edition costs $59.99, while the Complete Edition is $79.99. You can pre-order now via Steam.

Hard as it might be to believe, there was a point less than 10 years ago where the video game industry thought that portable gaming was dead. The PlayStation Vita had flopped, and the growth of Android and iOS gaming seemed like a major threat to Nintendo 3DS. The arrival of Nintendo Switch completely changed that narrative, with the system quickly proving that there was still a lot of interest in portable gaming on a dedicated device. Since then, we’ve seen the arrival of systems like Steam Deck and Analogue Pocket, and PlayStation seems to be planning a new portable of its own.

Rumors about this new PlayStation handheld have been bouncing around for quite some time. Sony has clearly shown more interest in the handheld market with the PlayStation Portal, but fans have been eager to see something that offers true portability, as opposed to a cloud gaming device. Known insider HeisenbergFX4 on the Neogaf forums says that they expect the new system “somewhere around PS6 launch.” They also note that this doesn’t look like “a real refresh of the Portal,” and won’t have similar pricing. That seems to imply that it could be a dedicated handheld.

playstation portal has been a success, but many sony fans want a more substantial handheld

As with any rumor, readers are advised to take all of this with a grain of salt. We’re still a few years away from the launch of the PS6, and a lot can happen in a few years. Plans are constantly changing in the video game industry, and just because this seems to be a sure thing right now, it doesn’t mean that everything will fall into place. There clearly is an appetite among PlayStation users for something more substantial than the Portal, but finding the right price point and features (especially around the timing of a new console), is going to be very important.

PlayStation is not the only company looking to cash in on the success of Switch; Microsoft has openly talked about creating an Xbox handheld. Rumors suggest that Microsoft is planning its own internally developed device in the next few years, but we could see an option much sooner from one of the company’s partners. The ASUS ROG Ally already features Xbox Game Pass compatibility, and leaked images show an ASUS built handheld with official Xbox branding, which has yet to be officially announced.

While mobile gaming remains a very big part of the video game industry, it seems there are limits on what people are interested in playing on Android and iOS devices. Mobile has clearly not replaced dedicated portable devices, and Sony can’t be blamed for wanting a bigger piece of the handheld market. It remains to be seen whether the company can succeed where it previously failed with the Vita, but the industry is a lot different now than it was back then. Hopefully Sony can come up with a reasonably priced option that offers more freedom over the PlayStation Portal, without breaking the bank at the time a new console is also launching.

Arma Reforger is finally bringing mods to PlayStation 5 users very soon. The Arma series is one of the most sophisticated and beloved military sim franchises on the market. It was relegated to PC for years due to not only its demanding nature with its sprawling maps and epic battles, but also its complex control scheme. Arma gives players a lot of control over just about everything in the game, so it requires a lot of controls that aren’t really available on a controller. However, that’s changing. In 2022, Arma Reforger was stealth released on Xbox, giving fans the Arma experience on console. It is meant to be a testing ground for future Arma releases on all platforms and so far, it’s been great.

Over time, Arma Reforger has added things like mod support to the Xbox version. Although the game is set during the Cold War and therefore, technology is pretty limited, mods can change that. Some mods even completely change the game and its setting, allowing players to have a modern day setting with high-tech gear like NVGs, better vehicles, a wider array of weapons, and much more. It completely transforms the game for the better, but it still has some rough edges on consoles. However, PlayStation fans were sad when Arma Reforger came to PS5 at the end of 2024. The game had no mod support on PS5, meaning a big part of the game was completely inaccessible to them.

Thankfully, that’s about to change. Arma Reforger is bringing mod support to PS5 later this month. A new video from the game’s Twitter account confirmed that Arma Reforger for PS5 will get mods starting on May 22nd. That means fans will get to enjoy the mods for this game starting next weekend, which is huge for those who have been waiting for this. As of right now, it’s unclear if there will be any kind of restrictions for the PlayStation version. PlayStation as a platform is very particular about modding, early access games, and more as it wants to ensure players get a good experience worth their money and are protected from certain things.

PlayStation was pretty resistant to things like crossplay for years, so it’s in their DNA to be a bit picky about these things. However, it seems like Arma is pretty safe. Hopefully this will create a more one to one parity between all of the platforms. That said, there are problems with mods on the Xbox side of things. Downloads can take forever or just get completely stuck, making it a pain to get them working. Hopefully Arma Refroger has figured out this problem and has fixed it on PS5 and Xbox as well, but only time will tell.

All of this is great news for the future as well. Arma 4 is in active development and it will come to console later down the line. It’s likely still a couple of years away, but ideally, this means mod support will be a day one feature for the game on both consoles. We don’t know much about the new Arma game, but Reforger has been a pretty strong appetizer for what’s to come.

Are you going to download any mods for Arma Reforger? Let me know in the comments.

A classic MMO has finally made its way to Xbox after spending nearly two decades as a PC exclusive. For many, many years, there were a lot of games that were exclusive to PC, much to the frustration of console gamers. Sometimes this was due to how demanding the games were for the hardware, other times it came down to the fact that they just made more sense as PC games with keyboard and mouse instead of controller. However, we’ve started to see more and more games on all platforms, bridging the gap between console and PC. Games like Arma and the tactical shooter Ready or Not have all begun making their way to consoles, finding new fans.

While there are some fans that hope to see other games come to console, there’s work to be done. World of Warcraft is a game that console players hope to see one day, but there’s no telling if or when that will happen. It would probably be in Xbox’s best interest given they now own World of Warcraft developer Blizzard, but perhaps it’s more complicated than we all think. Nevertheless, another fantasy MMORPG has finally made its way to console, though its arrival was pretty quiet.

Wizard101 Has Released on Xbox

wizard101

Wizard101, an MMORPG that was initially developed for younger audiences, has made its way to Xbox via the console’s Game Preview program. This allows games to arrive on the platform in an early access capacity for a lower price while fans give feedback on how the game works on console. Wizard101 has a pretty loyal cult following on PC and now, its console arrival will allow more players to enjoy it. The game takes obvious inspiration from Harry Potter as players inhabit the shoes of a young wizard student, tasked with battling evil in turn-based combat.

Wizard101 is available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with plans to bring it to PS4, PS5, and even Nintendo Switch at a later date. PlayStation has different standards for game releases and isn’t as keen on early access games, so that is likely why the game isn’t available there yet. However, when Wizard101 arrives on other platforms, the console versions will all exist on one big server, allowing for crossplay between Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo.

You can view a description of Wizard101 below.

A dark magic has overtaken Wizard City and the many worlds of The Spiral. You may be a brand-new student at the Ravenwood School of Magical Arts, but you and your magical spells may be the only hope The Spiral has to thwart the evil forces threatening the balance of everything. Unlock your inner magic and prepare to unravel the mysteries surrounding a professor gone rogue. As you master powerful spells, darkness threatens to engulf The Spiral.

Hone your strategy to unleash powerful magic and defeat foes in thrilling turn-based card combat. Add or remove spell cards before each battle to strategically get the cards you need when you need them! Take down foes solo or team up with friends for maximum efficiency. Take time to relax and rest up before your next big fight with numerous side systems! Hatch and train countless adorable pets, craft mighty weapons and gear, harvest hefty rewards with gardening, reel in your best catches with fishing, or decorate your castle to your heart’s content with housing.

Gun Interactive has confirmed that support for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will be coming to an end following an update later this month. In a post on the game’s official website, the publisher said that “we feel that we have seen The Texas Chain Saw Massacre fully realized,” while listing off several notable accomplishments. Players should not expect to see any additional content released for the game in the future, but Gun has explicitly stated that the game is not getting delisted, and will remain playable. That should be good news for anyone already having flashbacks to Friday the 13th: The Game!

“…The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will not be receiving any further future content or support. This means that there will be no more DLC, balance updates, or bug fixes, after our upcoming May patch. You can still expect a few more patches in the future in order to transition towards peer-to-peer matchmaking. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre will still be playable and is NOT being delisted from store fronts,” the game’s official website reads.

Leatherface was just one of the killers in the texas chain saw massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre was released in the summer of 2023, so the game’s updates lasted a little under two years. During that time, the game added multiple maps and a handful of new Killers and Survivors. Gun Interactive enlisted several horror icons to voice these roles, including Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th), Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator), Scout Taylor Compton (Halloween), and Skeet Ulrich (Scream). In today’s blog post, Gun Interactive notes that bringing these actors into the Texas Chain Saw Massacre franchise was “incredibly rewarding and important to us.”

For many players, it might have seemed like the writing was already on the wall for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Sumo Nottingham was the original developer on the game, but development shifted to Black Tower Studios last year. That’s rarely a good sign, and fans could not be blamed for thinking that new content was set to conclude in the near future. Despite this, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre received the new Rush Week mode last year, offering something significantly different from the main game.

While Gun Interactive is painting this decision as “the natural creative end,” fans can’t help but feel a little disappointed with how this situation played out. There had been hopes that Gun Interactive might eventually get the rights to films beyond the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, but legal red tape prevented the game from referencing any of the sequels. That likely hampered the developers in a way that we didn’t see with Friday the 13th: The Game (which clearly had its own set of problems). Gun Interactive closed out the blog post hinting at its next major project. While no information was revealed, Gun says the plan is to “continue to do what we do best… make your favorite horror games.”

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Jordan A. Munn

Naughty Dog’s next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, has already seen mixed reactions. Main protagonist, Jordan A. Mun, played by Tati Gabrielle, is facing a similar backlash to The Last of Us Part 2’s character Abby, and the voice actor who portrayed her, Laura Bailey. Tati Gabrielle has spoken out about the initial backlash received following the official announcement trailer and has now revealed more information about her ongoing experience with Naughty Dog as the face of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Gabrielle revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly how she is preparing for the role of Jordan in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The actress is aware of the backlash and hate that came about with The Last of Us Part 2 and is already working with Neil Druckmann, the studio head of Naughty Dog, to prepare for a similar response

tati gabrielle as jordan a. munn in intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

“Neil was like, ‘Ignore it. No matter what, me and you, we’re going to make something beautiful. We’re going to make something that we’re proud of,” Gabrielle said. “Neil’s been bootcamp-ing me. I know Troy’s experience, I know Ashley’s experience… I know Laura Bailey’s experience.”

Laura Bailey received an incredible wave of hate, especially after players experienced The Last of Us Part 2’s most controversial scene. Not only did the actress receive attacks online, but she later reported that her family was also threatened.

Despite this, many are still excited for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Not much is known about the game, but there was a positive reaction to the game’s world and look. Gabrielle seems determined to ignore the hate and give her best performance, and Druckmann seems to be of the same mind.

Over the weekend, Bandai Namco revealed a roadmap and a whole lot of details about the future of Tekken 8. The first major update on the roadmap is now live, adding new features, new skins, and the first of several planned Balance Adjustments for the fighting game. It’s hard to say right now just how far reaching these changes will be, but the developers are clearly looking to fix a lot of the issues that have come about since the start of Season 2. Basically, Bandai Namco is trying to fix the “attack-heavy balance” as quickly as possible and get the game back to where fans are happiest.

Players will be happy to learn that Bandai Namco is also banning a number of accounts, including those who cheat, intentionally disconnect to avoid losing, and those using “inappropriate skins” along with names and messages that don’t fit with the standards set by the development team. Full patch notes can be found below:

Balance Adjustment Policy for Ver.2.01

In TEKKEN 8 Ver. 2.01, additional adjustments have been made to address the game’s attack-heavy balance.

Alongside the previously implemented fixes for “issues that could be addressed quickly,” this update also begins to tackle longer-term issues—such as reducing air combo damage and reworking Heat Burst performance—which were raised frequently by players and required more time to evaluate.
* The patch notes for Ver.2.01 are scheduled to be released on [PDT] Monday, May 12, 6:30 PM / [CEST] Tuesday, May 13, 3:30 AM.

1) Gradual Adjustment of Moves with Excessive Return
Following the previous update, balance adjustments have been made with a focus on the following points:

– Adjustment of moves where the return is disproportionately high relative to the risk involved
– Adjustment of high-performance moves that easily create consecutive advantageous situations and lead to one-sided developments

Through these adjustments, the goal is to achieve a more balanced playing field across all characters and foster an environment where diverse strategies can thrive.
Additionally, moves not targeted in this update will continue to be reviewed based on player trends and feedback, with further adjustments implemented as necessary.

2) Reduction of Aerial Combo Damage
In consideration of the current trend of increasing overall combo damage, adjustments have been made to the damage of moves that contribute significantly to particularly powerful aerial combos across all characters.
These changes are intended to increase the opportunities for offense, defense, and tactical exchanges, while also addressing the excessive disparity in damage potential between characters.
Aerial combos will continue to be closely monitored, and if instances of excessive damage are identified, additional measures will be considered as appropriate.

3) Adjustment to Heat Burst Performance
In light of the fact that, during exchanges surrounding Heat Burst activation, it was often difficult for the defending player to evade the move with sidesteps even when anticipating the activation, the overall tracking performance of Heat Burst against lateral movement has been reduced.
This adjustment is intended to make it easier for the defending side to respond through movement or evasion, thereby enabling more interactive mind games that reward defensive techniques.

4) Reduction of Chip Damage from Heat Smash
Given that the increase to maximum health has already lessened the impact of chip damage overall, this update limits adjustments specifically to Heat Smash, reducing its chip damage output.
Rather than implementing a broad revision to chip damage at this stage, we have opted for a targeted response. Moving forward, we will continue to monitor match environments and player behavior, and consider additional adjustments to chip damage as necessary.

# Future Adjustments
The next update (Ver. 2.02) is scheduled for release in June 3rd.
This update will include adjustments to certain character-specific moves that consume remaining Heat Timer duration, as well as balance improvements through targeted character tweaks.
Building on the outcomes of the previous and current updates, we will continue our efforts to enhance the overall battle balance and ensure a more refined and competitive gameplay environment.

Changes to the individual fighters can be found at Tekken 8‘s official website right here. For those hoping to see additional adjustments, Balance Adjustment #2 is less than a month away; Bandai Namco has already confirmed that it will be released on June 3rd. That same day will also see some new content released, including a collaboration with Karate Kid: Legends. Following that, a third balance adjustment is planned for sometime this summer.

Forza Horizon 5 was released on PlayStation 5 late last month, marking the first time the series has ever appeared on a Sony platform. It’s a pretty big deal, and developer Playground Games and Lamborghini are celebrating in a unique way. The game recently added the Lamborghini Revuelto, and players can now score a free livery for it by using the Share Code 687 884 132. After inputting the code, players will receive a livery design that starts out green in the front of the car before blending into a striking blue coloration.

The two colors are obviously those used by Xbox and PlayStation respectively. While the official Forza website doesn’t explicitly say that this is meant to reflect the two console color schemes, it’s pretty clear from the language. Xbox is clearly signaling an end to the console wars between the two companies, just as so many players on PS5 have embraced games created by Microsoft.

the new livery is available now in all versions of forza horizon 5

“The roads of Forza Horizon have always been breathtaking. Now, they’re boundless. From April 25, Forza Horizon 5 opened up like never before, inviting players from more platforms to drive together on the same open road. Lamborghini and Forza have joined forces to create a powerful symbol of unity: a first-of-its-kind livery, designed for a vibrant driving community, that is only getting bigger,” the announcement reads.

Xbox has been making a concerted effort to bring more of its games to rival platforms over the last year. Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are the two most recent examples, but this shift in strategy really started kicking into gear with games like Sea of Thieves, Grounded, and Pentiment. In the short term, the strategy is clearly working, as these games are selling quite well on PS5. However, fans continue to worry about the long-term impact, and what it might mean for interest in future Xbox consoles. The argument being that some people might simply buy a PS5 if they can get all the good Xbox games on the platform.

Whatever the case might be, the new livery is a nice freebie, and it’s available to all players regardless of which platform they play Forza Horizon 5 on. It’s a very sleek option, and it might give players an extra incentive to unlock the Lamborghini Revuelto if they haven’t already. Of course, it will be interesting to see if a similar design is released if the game ever gets announced for Nintendo Switch 2. Microsoft has kept its plans mostly quiet for Nintendo’s new system, but it’s a safe bet that we could see some Xbox games similarly make the jump. Could we see a livery with Xbox green, PlayStation blue, and Switch red next? The possibility doesn’t seem all that farfetched!

Have you picked up Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 yet? How do you feel about so many Xbox games jumping over to other platforms? Share your thoughts with me directly on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

A new report about the PS5 Pro claims that Sony is working on giving PlayStation fans 8K gaming via an update that is currently in the works. More specifically, 8K at 60 fps. The report comes the way of YouTuber and hardware insider Moore’s Law Is Dead. In a new YouTube video, the insider details what to expect from the future updates to PS5 Pro PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, more commonly known as PSSR. And according to Moore’s Laws Is Dead, the update is so substantial he has dubbed it to “PSSR 2.”

According to Moore’s Law Is Dead (via PSLS), with PSSR 2, PlayStation has two goals in mind: 4K gaming at 120 fps and 8K gaming at 60 fps. Of course, while the latter would be impressive it is the less practical of the two for the simple fact that most PlayStation users — including PS5 Pro owners — certainly do not own an 8K TV.

In addition to this, PlayStation is reportedly aiming to expand support for more resolutions by adding 1440p support and 1080p support. Neither are currently PSSR supported.

While Moore’s Law Is Dead claims all of this in the works for PS5 Pro, there is no word of when it will be announced, let alone released. The YouTuber notes Sony has been toying away on this for a while, and has gone through more than one revision. This could mean it is closer to being released, but it could be indicative of an indecisive Sony who could end up toying away longer. Unfortunately, all we can do is speculate.

As for the source, Moore’s Law Is Dead has proven reliable in the past, and had more than once accurate PS5 Pro leak. However, the YouTuber has also been off the mark in the past as well, which is important to consider.

At the moment of publishing, Sony has not commented on this report and the speculation it has created in any capacity. We don’t expect this to change for a handful of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is available for $799.99. For more coverage on the premium PS5 console — including all of the latest PS5 Pro news, all of the latest PS5 Pro rumors and leaks, and all of the latest PS5 Pro deals — click here.

Arrowhead Games is teasing something massive for Helldivers 2 this year. While players can look forward to the upcoming Masters of Ceremony Warbond, another change is apparently on the way. Arrowhead Games’ CEO, Shams Jorjani, teased that there may be changes coming to how players earn Super Credits, the primary currency of the game. This has fans excited, and many expect it to line up with the imminent Illuminate invasion. Jorjani did not share many details about a possible rework to Super Credits but did confirm it is something Arrowhead Games is looking at for the future of Helldivers 2.

Super Credits are the primary currency for Helldivers 2. It is used to purchase Warbonds, and players have two ways to acquire them. The first is to simply purchase it from the in-game store using real money. But players can also earn Super Credits in-game, and this is the method Jorjani is teasing changes for.

“We’ll undoubtedly tweak how Super Credits [are] earned and figure out ways to make it better, but carefully and talk about it with you,” Jorjani said. “Our intent was not that people should grind different [for Super Credits].”

Helldivers 2 Discord message.
Helldivers 2 Discord message from shams jorjani about tweaking super credits.

Jorjani doubled down on not wanting to make Helldivers 2 a grind for players, citing the studio’s love of games and hobbies. Warbonds are another avenue that is being reviewed and may see tweaks in the future. Again, Arrowhead Games nor Jorjani shared any concrete details about either Super Credits or Warbonds.

Helldivers 2 has received numerous updates since its launch. Players have praised Arrowhead Studio for its business decisions, particularly with how it handles microtransactions. With plans to further revamp Super Credits and Warbonds, players will likely heap more praise on the studio.

PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS5 have been warned by their fellow gamers to not play one of May’s free PS Plus games. This week, Sony released May’s free PlayStation Plus games: Ark: Survival Ascended, Balatro, and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. The free PS4 and PS5 games have been available to all PS Plus subscribers, regardless of the tier, since last week. And this has been enough time for PS Plus subscribers to develop an addiction to Balatro.

Unfortunately, it’s also been enough time for PS Plus subscribers to learn the hard way to trust user reviews about Ark: Survival Ascended on PS5. Taking to the PlayStation Plus Reddit page, one subscriber revealed that after five hours of playing the PS5 game courtesy of PlayStation Plus, their save was wiped. Of course, save wipes and save bugs happen, however, as the user notes in the post this is a known and reoccurring problem with the game on PS5, as various user reviews for the game warn.

“I should have listened to the console reviews about Ark: Survival Ascended,” reads the post in question. “So many of the reviews said that Ark was pretty crappy on console/PS5. I love crafting survival games, so i was very excited when this was announced to be on PlayStation Plus. I played it for about five hours, save and close out, take a break. When i come back to it? Save file is gone completely. I looked all over forums for answers and it just seems like this is something that happens on console.”

In addition to save issues, the comments reveal that users are also simply having issues getting the game to run from the main menu without glitches.

“I can’t even get it to start right, it’s really glitchy for me right from the main menu. I said screw that and deleted it,” reads one of these comments.

Of course, it goes without saying, but for every PS5 user having an issue with Ark: Survival Ascended, there are many more playing and enjoying the game. That said, those on PS Plus who are interested in checking it out now that it is free should be wary of its issues on PS5.

The next few months will see a lot of content added to Tekken 8. Bandai Namco has pulled back the curtain on its plans for the game’s future, which will see the arrival of a new DLC fighter, free and paid cosmetics, a movie collaboration, and more. However, the developer’s biggest announcement is the game’s next DLC fighter. It has been confirmed that Season 2 will see the return of Fahkumram, a character that first debuted as a DLC fighter in Tekken 7. As of this writing, an exact date has not been announced, but Fahkumram will return to the series sometime this summer.

Tekken 8‘s new content will begin to arrive on May 13th with the arrival of Balance Adjustment #1. This will include the free Tekken Ghost Showdown as well as the paid Cyber Phantom Pack and Vigilante Tech Pack. Then on June 3rd, a free Karate Kid: Legends collaboration will arrive alongside Balance Adjustment #2, and more free and paid skins. The third Balance Adjustment does not have a revealed release date beyond “summer,” but players can expect a bunch of Pac-Man themed content, including the new Pac-Pixels stage. A full trailer for all of this new content can be found below.

So far, reception to the announcements has been highly negative on YouTube and Reddit. Tekken 8 players were already disappointed with the current season, and these new announcements have not helped matters. Fahkumram was a controversial character in Tekken 7, thanks to his overpowered nature. It’s possible the developers will have balanced him out and made him more enjoyable, but right now there seems to be little enthusiasm around his return. One YouTube user called Fahkumram “a character no one asked for,” while others questioned the logic of releasing the same fighter as DLC in two games in a row. It’s been known for a while that Tekken 8‘s next DLC character would be a returning fighter, but fans clearly would have preferred to see someone else instead.

The Karate Kid: Legends collaboration has similarly received harsh words from Tekken 8 players. The collaboration makes some sense, but players are basically getting a free hoodie cosmetic, and some advertising signage. Players are arguing that it would have made more sense to bring back Lei Wulong, a character inspired by Jackie Chan, who happens to be one of the stars in Karate Kid: Legends. Instead, Bandai Namco is bringing back Fahkumram, and some have even argued that the new Pac-Man inspired stage looks too much like the Geometric Plane stage from the previous Tekken.

Hopefully fan reception will be a little stronger once this content is actually released. Tekken 8 debuted last year to universal acclaim, but much of the game’s community seems to have lost faith in Bandai Namco since the launch of Season 2. It looks like winning them back is going to take some effort.

The PlayStation Store has made an Xbox exclusive only $1.99 for PS5 users, as well as PS4 users. The Xbox exclusive hails from 2005, and was notably one of the final exclusives for the original Xbox, as it released on October 18, 2005, about a month before Microsoft released the Xbox 360. Later in the same year, the Xbox game also came to PC, but it never came to any other console, at least not until it was remastered almost two decades later. To this end, it is specifically the remaster that PS5 users can currently buy on the PlayStation Store for the price of a bag of chips.

The OG Xbox game in question is called Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse, which normally costs $19.99 on the PlayStation Store, but is discounted by 90 percent until May 22. As a result, it is the cheapest the game has ever been on the PlayStation Store. And at the moment, the PlayStation Store is the only place it is on sale.

On the PlayStation Store, the OG Xbox game has a 4.6 out of 5 rating with PS4 and PS5 users across 668 user reviews. This lines up with its 90% approval rating with Steam users. That said, it is a bit higher than how Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse fared with critics back in 2005, when it generated a 75 on Metacritic.

Developed by Wideload Games and published by Aspyr Media, the Xbox exclusive sold appreciably back in the day, to the point a sequel was greenlit. However, the sequel never came to fruition, and Wideload Games has since shut down, which means it probably will never get a sequel.

“It’s 1959 and the city of Punchbowl, PA, is a beacon of progress and ideal living,” reads an official elevator pitch of the game on the PlayStation Store, for those unfamiliar with it. “Show the living that law and order are no match for a dead man on a mission. Your boyfriend’s back Maggie, and Punchbowl is gonna be in trouble!”

Those on PS4 and PS5 that decide to trigger this PSN deal will need to prepare should prepare to sit down for somewhere between six to nine hours, which is a good amount of content for only $2.

A PS2 classic is being censored by Capcom 23 years later. Before PlayStation fans panic, the original 2002 PS2 game in question is not being censored. That wouldn’t even be possible. However, Capcom is set to resurface this 23-year-old PS2 game with a new remaster, and this remaster is censoring the original content. The censorship is not substantial or consequential, but in age very sensitive to censorship, it has not gone unnoticed. And some fans, in particular, are not happy.

For those completely out of the loop, 2002 PS2 exclusive Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is getting a remaster from Capcom via Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will also be on PS5 and Xbox Series X via backward compatibility. The remaster is notably right around the corner, scheduled to release on May 23. The closer we get to this date, the more of the remaster is shown off.

In the process of this, fans noticed that one of the game’s female characters has had a costume change that gives her a more conservative outfit. Why this change was made, we don’t know. Capcom obviously did not highlight it, but this is far from the first remaster to make these type of changes to a game from yesteryear.

As you would expect, some fans that were previously looking forward to the game are no longer interested, and claim they aren’t even going to buy it anymore.

“I saw some of the censorship of the old characters – went from must buy to no buy,” writes one fan. Meanwhile, another adds: “Unnecessary censorship is really annoying, do better.”

A third fan further adds: “Revert the ridiculous censorship. It’s an M-rated game. For adults. No reason for it. Weird how blood and murder is ok but a little cleavage is crossing the line. It was fine back then it’s fine now.

Capcom has yet to acknowledge or address the negative reception the unexpected change to the game has received. We don’t expect this to change for a variety of reasons, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. In the meantime, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Was this the right call by Capcom or an unforced error?

PS5 Pro owners just got a new surprise, courtesy of not PlayStation, but Xbox. Once PlayStation’s fierce rival, Xbox is now one of the biggest publishers of games on PS5 thanks to its acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard, combined with its expanding multi-platform approach. Xbox games on PS5 are no longer the novelty they used to be, let alone the preposterous concept they once were. Even in this new era of Xbox though many were left surprised when Gears of War: Reloaded was announced, this week, for not just Xbox Series X and PC, but PS5 as well. When the Gears of War remaster releases on August 26, it will be available on PS5 the moment it launches. It gets better for PlayStation fans though, or at least some.

In the announcement, there is no word of Gears of War: Reloaded being PS5 Pro Enhanced, but the game’s PlayStation Store listing has leaked as much. What the PS5 Pro enhancements are, the PlayStation Store does not divulge. This does confirm it will not just be PS5 Pro Enhanced, which is surprising enough, but at the day of its launch. Consequently, this means the PS5 Pro will be the best version of the game on console, perhaps by a considerable margin if the enhancements are extensive.

All of that said, it is worth noting the PlayStation Store could have faulty information. In other words, this could just be an error. This is unlikely, but it is possible and worth remembering.

At the moment of publishing, neither PlayStation nor Xbox have spoken about this topic. We don’t expect this to change, but if it does, we will be sure to update the story accordingly.

“Gears of War: Reloaded is a celebration of one of gaming’s most iconic franchises,” reads an official blurb about the upcoming remaster, for those that missed the news this week. “Featuring 4K resolution, 120 frames per second support, and the ultimate multiplayer experience with cross-progression and cross-play, across all platforms, this is the definitive way to experience the game that started it all.”

PlayStation may be reviving a PS3 series not seen since 2012, or at least that is the speculation that has taken a foothold following a recent leak. When PlayStation gamers think of the PS3 era, games and series such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, or LittleBigPlanet likely come to mind as these are the three biggest PlayStation series that debuted during this part of PlayStation history. There were a few other notable PlayStation IP that got their start during the PS3 generation as well, but they are now dormant, including: Infamous, Resistance, and MotorStorm. Those hoping either of the former are returning are going to want to keep hoping, but fans of the latter may finally get their wish.

Over on Reddit, PlayStation fans noticed that Stellar Entertainment is working on a AAA arcade racing game in Unreal Engine 5. Where’s the PlayStation connection? Well, a PlayStation XDev employee advertised the position suggesting it could be for a PlayStation project. For those that don’t know, Stellar Entertainment worked on Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered for the PS5.

Whether or not this is connection is legit, we don’t know, but if it is, there aren’t many PlayStation AAA arcade racing games in Unreal Engine 5 that could be in the works. It’s not Gran Turismo, because that series is already accounted for by PlayStation studio Polyphony Digital. It also isn’t made in Unreal Engine. This leaves the following options: a new IP, Driveclub, Wipeout, and MotorStorm. There are a couple other racing IP owned by Sony but these are the only ones that could realistically make a return. Even Driveclub was a disaster though, so it is hard to see that being dug up by Sony. That leaves Wipeout and MotorStorm as options. Sony has recently tried to revive Wipeout and failed to do so, which leaves MotorStorm as the best possible candidate, hence all the speculation.

“MotorStorm honestly has the potential to be a huge racing IP for Sony,” notes one PlayStation fan. “Festival themed racing games are very hot right now and MotorStorm was one of the first to do it. A reimagining with modern hardware and physics could be an incredible addition to Sony’s roster of first party games, and fill in the missing space of ‘arcade racer’ in their line up.

Of course, take everything here for what it is worth, which is complete speculation. There are dots to connect, but whether they are being connected correctly is anyone’s best guess.

At the moment of publishing, none of the implicated parties have commented on anything above. If this changes, we will be sure to update the story accordingly. In the meantime, you can read more about MotorStorm below.

MotorStorm is a racing series created by former PlayStation studio Evolution Studios. It debuted back in 2006 with a release of the same name via the PS3 and the PS3 only. This was followed by MotorStorm: Pacific Rift in 2008, MotorStorm: Arctic Edge in 2009, MotorStorm: Apocalypse in 2011, and MotorStorm: RC in 2012. As noted, the studio that made the once popular PS3 series made Driveclub in 2014, which was a huge mess at launch. Two years later, in 2016 the studio was shutdown by Sony.

A new PS5 feature is going to save PSN users, or at least some PSN users some money. It goes without saying, but gaming is an expensive hobby. While PlayStation has yet to follow suit and increase its prices like Nintendo, and more recently Xbox, it is by no means cheap in comparison. Between the PS5 itself — let alone a PS5 Pro — and then buying games for it, it is easy to rack up the expenses even if you are a more casual enjoyer of video games. To this end, when you can save money, you should. And those that use Apple Pay, can now do just that.

While Xbox consoles and the Nintendo Switch continue not to support Apple Pay, the PS5 now does. This means those that use Apple Pay can immediately start saving money on purchases on the PlayStation Store.

The PlayStation app has supported this option for a while, but not the PS5 console itself. Sony quietly changed that this week. What sparked the change, we don’t know, but it becomes the first current generation video game console to accept Apple Pay.

For those that don’t know, via Apple Pay PS5 users will get 2% cash back on purchases. Those that don’t buy many games won’t notice much savings with this, but those who buy dozens of PS5 games a year will quickly rack up savings this way. And of course, it will save PlayStation fans the hassle of switching between the app and the console, and save users from having to dig up their card details. It is a small upgrade, but one PlayStation fans are excited about.

“Perfect! I use an Apple Card so this means I’ll get more cash back,” writes one PS5 user of the news. “Used it the past couple days for purchases, very clutch,” adds another PS5 user.

Meanwhile, a third PlayStation fan adds: “That’s awesome! Hopefully Microsoft and Nintendo are soon to follow.”

This will presumably be standard going forward, which is to say the PS6 will presumably launch with Apple Pay support. This is just speculation though.

The PlayStation Store is currently running the “Next Level Savings” sale in May 2025, and it does, indeed, have some huge savings. It’s got a couple of thousand games and pieces of DLC on sale and covers a lot of ground. Here are the 10 best deals in this “Next Level Savings” sale. All sales are also set to expire on May 21st at 11:59 PM PT.

1) Diablo 4

Price: $24.99 / $49.99

Diablo 4 is the latest entry in Blizzard Entertainment’s beloved franchise and is on its deepest sale yet on PlayStation. This RPG was beloved for its signature loot-chasing gameplay and for giving players the freedom to create their own special builds, as well as its surprisingly well-told story. The game also saw the well-received Vessel of Hatred expansion, which isn’t on sale separately but is included with the discounted Diablo 4 Expansion Bundle.

2) Indivisible

Price: $2.99 / $19.99

Indivisible is a unique turn-based and real-time RPG hybrid that’s also part platformer and Metroidvania, all of which is wrapped in a gorgeous, anime-like art style. Its combat draws from the PS1 title Valkyrie Profile, as players can press buttons that correspond to certain party members to activate them on offense or defense. It allows for strategic battles that also let players test their reflexes, but can grow a little repetitive in the later hours. And while the 2D platforming is serviceable, the story is the star here. It’s about atoning for sins of the past, and this setup gives most of its characters a convincing and well-realized arc. Indivisible has some rough spots, but it has enough heart to make up for it. The Razmi’s Challenges DLC has also been discounted, but the base game is the more important part.

3) Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid

Price: $3.99 / $19.99

It’s unclear if Capcom is going to make another Marvel vs. Capcom game, which is where Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid comes in. This fast-paced tag fighter has clearly been influenced by that seminal crossover series, yet Battle For The Grid makes enough of its own mark to stand out with its deep but accessible fighting mechanics. It’s undoubtedly helped by its license, but developer nWay delivered and even updated the game long after its release with balance changes, crossplay, premium DLC (which also includes Street Fighter’s Chun-Li and Ryu), all of which are just a sampling of its post-launch support. All four of its seasons are on sale, as well as its Super Edition (which has the first three seasons) and the Collector’s Edition (which has the first season).

4) Aliens: Fireteam Elite

Price: $8.99 / $29.99

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a cooperative-focused shooter that, more or less, realizes the adrenaline-fueled fantasy seen in the pivotal 1986 film. Players run through mostly dark levels blasting all sorts of Xenomorph threats and have to coordinate more heavily based on the difficulty. It’s a bit rough around the edges at times and a tad on the generic side, but it makes for a sufficient shooter for those who want to squad up with friends on the cheap. Developer Cold Iron Studios also patched in a ton of new free content that ranged from weapons, classes, difficulty modes, and crossplay, meaning it’s a little smoother and more complete now when compared to launch.

5) Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut

Price: $19.79 / $59.99

Ghost of Yotei is going to be one of 2025’s biggest games, and now that the release date is known, now is a great time to get into its predecessor or at least its expansion for those who skipped it. This version has the phenomenal base game that tells an engaging tale of a conflicted samurai warding off a new threat, but also the Iki Island DLC that tells a worthy backstory that has the game’s best narrative moments. It might not have a huge direct connection to Yotei since they are hundreds of years apart, but, at the very least, it will remind players how skilled Sucker Punch Productions is at creating memorable open-world experiences.

6) Resident Evil Remake Trilogy

Price: $49.49 / $89.99

Capcom’s been on a hot streak over the last few years, and the Resident Evil remakes have played no small part in that. The Resident Evil 2 remake kicked off this recent batch of reimaginings and excelled because of its fluid controls, crushing atmosphere (thanks to the semi-persistent threat, Mr. X), and replayability. The Resident Evil 3 remake is the sore spot here since it’s a lot shallower of a game, but the Resident Evil 4 remake more than makes up for it. This most recent remake stands side by side with the 2005 titan it was bred from, with its commitment to the variety and action that sits at the heart of RE4, all of which are made even more thrilling in the free VR mode for PSVR2. This package is brimming with value and worth diving into in this downtime between Resident Evil games.

7) Cryptmaster

Price: $19.99 / $24.99

Cryptmaster is a completely unique experience. It’s an RPG where combat is derived from typing out commands instead of direct sword slashes. This setup makes it a more cerebral experience since players have to guess words and type them out in order to get new commands. This is all supported by a unique and striking black and white art style and, more importantly, the sassy Cryptmaster who responds to what players type out (and will even berate those who swear at him). It’s ideal for those who have a keyboard connected to their console, but it’s a worthy experience even for those on controller.

8) Hypnospace Outlaw

Price: $3.99 / $19.99

Hypnospace Outlaw is, strangely, a little like Cryptmaster in that it’s likely more ideal for those on PC, yet still worth experiencing on console. Players act as mods that police content on the internet in the 1990s with all the weird, cringeworthy humor that came along with it. There’s a bit more going on under the hood that’s worth discovering, but the main pull here is the nostalgia-soaked vibes of a more innocent online time and the sharp, humorous writing.

9) Dishonored: Death of the Outsider

Price: $5.99 / $29.99

Dishonored seems to be on hiatus now, but at least it went out on a high note. Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is a standalone expansion that builds on Dishonored 2 but does so in a more streamlined fashion that doesn’t get a chance to drag. Protagonist Billie Lurk has a smaller array of powers, but they still allow for unique combinations and demonstrate how Arkane can excel even with an abbreviated set of tools. The toned-down scale also makes it more compelling to replay, and players even get access to previous Dishonored powers on later runs, which makes it even more replayable. It’s not the best entry in the series and a strange one to go out on, but it’s still more than deserving of the name.

10) Prey

Price: $5.99 / $29.99

Prey‘s performance on PS5 through backwards compatibility may be inferior to how it runs on Xbox Series X|S and PC, but it’s still quite an achievement that otherwise stands tall. This immersive sim is incredibly open in a way Arkane’s previous games couldn’t be, as Prey takes place on one single station that players can intimately learn as they search for new clues and items on their way back and forth in its foreboding halls. It encourages players to think critically with its well-defined set of rules in mind and come to their own solutions, which does not get stale and demonstrates a level of detail most games just don’t have. Prey is overshadowed by its excellent roguelite Mooncrash DLC (which is not included in this sale), but it is still a great game worth re-examining all these years later.

A former PS4 console exclusive — meaning the only console it was available on at launch was the PS4, but it was also on PC — is being given away for free via the Epic Games Store. The giveaway is not your typical Epic Games Store freebie though. And that is because where Epic Games Store free games typically only require an Epic Games Store account to download, this one is unlocked via Prime Gaming, which means an Amazon Prime subscription is required.

As for the game in question, it is horror game Amnesia: Rebirth from independent Swedish studio, Frictional Games, a name you may also recognize for 2015 horror game SOMA. Until June 11, aka for the next 33 days, Amnesia: Rebirth is free with Prime Gaming. Once claimed, the game is yours to keep. In other words, while an active subscription is required to access the free game download, it is not required to retain the free download.

For those unfamiliar with the game, Amnesia: Rebirth — the third game in the Amnesia series and a sequel to 2010’s Amnesia: The Dark Descent — debuted on October 20, 2020 via the PC and the PS4, making it a PS4 console exclusive. And it remained a PS4 console exclusive until October 20, 2022, when, two years after its original released, it came to Xbox One and Xbox Series X. While it came to the latter, it notably never came to the PS5.

Upon release, Amnesia: Rebirth garnered a Metacritic score of 80, which made it one of the better horror games of its year. Meanwhile, on the PlayStation Store — where it costs $29.99 — PlayStation fans rate it 4.35 out of 5 stars.

“In Amnesia: Rebirth, you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria,” reads an official story synopsis of the game for those interested in knowing more. “Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.”

Those that decide to trigger this free offer and download Amnesia: Rebirth should expect a horror game that is about 8 to 10 hours long. Completionists though will need a few extra hours with the game.

A trilogy of games that many associate with the PS1 is set to finally return next month in a single collection. Perhaps more than any other retro PlayStation platform, the PS1 has been getting a lot of love over the past few years. This has resulted in various remasters and remakes of PS1 games like Tomba!, Suikoden, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, Tomb Raider, and numerous others coming about. Now, this PS1 revival trend is set to continue soon, this time with a trio of cult-classic platforms.

Arriving next month on June 16th, the Gex Trilogy is set to hit PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC platforms. Published by Limited Run Games, this collection contains the original Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. All three games were released from 1995 to 1999, but the PS1 was the only platform that ended up featuring each installment in the series. Gex, as a franchise, has since remained on ice, meaning that this remastered bundle is the first thing that has happened with the property in over 25 years.

Outside of simply getting visual upgrades, Limited Run has looked to improve the controls and gameplay found in each Gex game. This means that analogue controls have been added to the 3D entries, while other improvements like a rewind function and quick saves have also been brought to the experience. While it remains to be seen how this collection will be received, it’s great to see that it finally has a release date given that it was announced way back in 2023.

To learn more about the Gex Trilogy in advance of its launch, you can check out its new trailer and official description courtesy of Limited Run Games below.

Gex Trilogy

About: Gex Trilogy brings plenty of quality of life improvements to the channel surfing Gecko’s games, scaling things up with Rewind and Save Anywhere features across all included titles. Additionally, Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko will support native 16:9 widescreen, and have been rebuilt with full 360-degree analogue control, a huge step up from the 8-directional movement featured in the original titles. Gex was always one smooth reptile, but now he feels slicker than a slimy salamander, controlling better than ever before.”

PlayStation fans are divided over changes Sony made to the gameplay of a popular PS4 exclusive with its recent re-release on PS5 and PS5 Pro. When PlayStation fans think of games that define the PS4 generation, they likely think of God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II, Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Death Stranding. What they probably don’t think of is Days Gone, and this is not because PlayStation fans didn’t buy and play the game — Days Gone sold well — but because it isn’t of the same quality as the games above, or at least that’s what its more middle-of-the-road Metacritic scores suggest. That said, it is relevant again, six years after its original release, because last month a remaster was released for PS5 and PS5 Pro.

More specifically, on April 25 Days Gone Remastered released with various improvements and changes to the 2019 PS4 original. One change, in particular, is not being championed as an upgrade by all PlayStation fans though.

Levraging the advance in tech, Days Gone on PS5 and PS5 Pro has more dynamic lighting, which in turn results in deeper shadows and a more realistic night time setting. In short, it’s much darker, and some PlayStation fans don’t like it.

“Night time differences are quite dramatic,” writes one PlayStation fan. Another fan adds: “I’m loving the remaster, but don’t love how everything at night just has a blue filter over it.”

Meanwhile, a third fan adds: “I’m really not a fan of what they did with night or darker scenes. Yes it’s more realistic but there’s a reason why most games go with a brighter night and it’s so people can see wtf is going on or where they’re going. The night look in Days Gone pre-remaster was great, now it often looks like crushed blacks.”

Of course, some PlayStation fans don’t represent every opinion on the matter, but this has been a reoccurring take on these specific changes in the Days Gone remaster. So far though, Bend Studio and PlayStation have not acknowledged the criticism.

It’s a tumultuous time in the gaming industry, with many developers shutting down or being subjected to downsizing. And yet, games and fans who want to play them march on, with plenty of exciting new projects on the horizon. Now, this includes the addition of a brand-new studio joining the PlayStation Studios team. This new developer, which originated over at Halo and Destiny 2 producer Bungie, is called teamLFG. Today, PlayStation announced that teamLFG will be joining PlayStation Studios to work on “an ambitious incubation project.”

In PlayStation’s blog post introducing its new studio, teamLFG shared its own statement about the team and this exciting new project. teamLFG is comprised of team members who’ve worked on iconic titles like Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, and Fortnite, with a few “fresh creative perspectives” on the team as well.

If you’re curious what that LFG stands for, it might not be what you think. According to teamLFG, these letters stand for “Looking for Group,” a commonly used phrase for gamers seeking others for multiplayer-focused games. This reportedly reflects the studio’s “mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging.” As this name and mission suggest, it looks like the new project teamLFG will bring to PlayStation studios will have a multiplayer focus. Let’s dig into what’s been shared about this new game so far.

What We Know About teamLFG’s New Project at PlayStation Studios

According to the statement from teamLFG, this first game from the new studio will be “a team-based action game.” It pulls inspiration from an interesting combination of sources, including “fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games.” This certainly seems like a wide variety of elements to try and form into a cohesive whole, which may be what earns this project its “ambitious” label from PlayStation Studios.

In addition to this interesting mix of flavors, teamLFG has shared that the new game will bring players to “a lighthearted, comedic world” that features a “new, mythic, science-fantasy universe.” From the sounds of it, we’re looking at brand-new IP, which is certainly exciting to hear. That said, the combination of inspiration sources listed so far could mean a lot of things. It’s hard to say just yet what to expect from this title, except that it will be multiplayer-focused.

Thus far, that’s about all we know about this new project. No further details or any idea of a release window have yet been shared, which isn’t that surprising since teamLFG has just been fully formed and introduced as a studio. Given the PlayStation Studios umbrella, it’s likely that the new game will be a PlayStation-first release, though these days that’s never a guarantee. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what teamLFG has got in the works for PlayStation Studios.

What do you think about the sound of this new project so far? Are you excited to see another multiplayer-focused title in the works from PlayStation Studios?

PlayStation Plus has made one of 2024’s best games free, and PS Plus subscribers on PS5 and PS4 are already addicted. The free PlayStation Plus game in question is one of May’s free PS Plus games that is available to all subscribers, regardless of what tier they are subscribed to. Whether you have a PS Plus Premium a subscription, a PS Plus Extra subscription, or a PS Plus Essential subscription, you can now develop an addiction that some PS Plus subscribers have likened to crack.

For those that missed the announcement, yesterday May’s free PlayStation Plus games lineup dropped. It features Ark: Survival Ascended, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, and Balatro. Depending on your taste, the standout game from this trio will vary, but there’s no denying that for many the standout PS Plus game this month is Balatro.

For those unfamiliar with Balatro, here are the most impressive parts of its resume: it is one of the top 10 highest-rated releases of 2024 according to Metacritic with a score of 90, it was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards, and it won Best Independent Game and Best Mobile Game at the same show. In short, it is one of the best games of last year. And it is highly addictive, as PlayStation Plus subscribers are finding out.

“I just [want to] recommend to play Balatro to experience what crack is like,” reads one of the top posts on the PS Plus Reddit page. “I just can’t stop. I’ve played it on the Switch last year a lot, but now I’m addicted again.”

Of course, this sentiment in isolation isn’t that noteworthy, but the popularity of the post and the comments echo it. And this has been the narrative around the game since its release last year.

“Yeah man holy **** this is nuts,” reads one of the comments. Another, separate comment adds: “Absolutely addicted.”

It goes without saying, but Balatro is not going to be for everyone, but for those interested in checking it out it can technically be beaten in less than 10 hours. According to How Long to Beat though, those that want to experience all of the side content will need closer to 50 hours with the game. And completionists will need hundreds of hours. Putting 100 or 200 hours into a card game may sound far-fetched, but the data suggests many have done exactly that.
